Virtual Quilting Weekend -- October 7-10, 2016

Welcome to VQW. I am starting this a little early as I will be on the road in the morning and don't want to delay anyone from quilting! I hope lots of you will be quilting with me this weekend. I have some quilt tops I would love to finish this weekend. Can't wait to see what all of you are working on. Next VQW will be second weekend in November (11-13).

AUQuilter 10-06-2016 02:59 PM

I will be working off and on this weekend. DH is painting our closet so when the closet system comes on Monday all the prep is completed. So while he is doing that I am starting on a kit I got last year at Houston Quilt Festival. Cutting tonight and picking up a little in the sewing room.

thimblebug6000 10-06-2016 03:51 PM

Look forward to getting some stitching in as well, thanks. Our 34th anniv. on Sat. and Canadian Thanksgiving turkey dinner here Monday night.... but I'm sure I can squish in some stitching!

ArlaJo 10-06-2016 04:01 PM

I have 6 blocks out of 24 made for my Stack and Whack so I will be working on that and cutting strips for 2 Crayon Box quilts.

daisydawg 10-06-2016 04:36 PM

need to finish stitching binding on another UFO I found hanging in a closet. Then I'll see what else I can get into.

Christine- 10-06-2016 05:03 PM

I'm going to finish binding a quilt and am hoping to buy backing for a top that needs to go on the longarm. If I can get to the store to buy the backing, I'll be longarming this weekend!

ube quilting 10-06-2016 05:12 PM

I am working on three swap projects, two are due at the end of the month. That is my focus for the weekend. I will be sewing with everyone.

I want to finish a baby quilt top that is made of strips. I hope to finish it tomorrow morning before I go out of town for the night.

I'm in too. Working on quilting a 75" square quilt. It's feeling really big, and I don't know how long it's going to take me -- I'm doing complicated (at least for me) straight-line echo quilting. I've put in about 7 hours so far; many more to come ...

IrishgalfromNJ 10-07-2016 01:58 AM

I'll be working on a new quilt while I wait for the backing fabric to be delivered for the top I just finished. I will start ironing and cutting today.

GailG 10-07-2016 03:33 AM

I'll be working on a perpetual project -- a stack and whack that I have been hand quilting for many years (too many!). Also hoping my granddaughter will come by to "OK" the border I've chosen for her t-shirt quilt so that I can finish that project.

I'm excited to see this! I am working on a quilt for the nephew of a close friend. He is only 12 and has to have a second brain surgery. They are still trying to assemble a team to do the procedure, and my friend is just a basket of nerves. I started cutting and piecing the top in the evenings this week, and she's the one I usually share pictures of WIP with, but I don't want her to know I'm doing it until it's done.

thimblebug6000 10-07-2016 06:59 AM

DebraK, absolutely gorgeous!

I am working on my 5th Teddy Bear hand appliqué block and will post when it is completed. We are having huge gusts of wind here, but the rain has stopped for now.

Dedemac 10-07-2016 08:04 AM

Will be in and out this weekend, have a job interview this afternoon, and a few family duties this weekend. Need to finish cleaning the sewing room so I can sew and want to work on my GFG (it's been a PHD way too long!) Also have a few Snoopy pillow cases to make for the grandsons, and two table runners to do.

Altairss 10-07-2016 08:13 AM

I am in, I have so many projects going I don't want to even list them it might make me loose my mind. lol I think I am starting with basting my DH quilt then will go from there. Can we say baby shower and how much can get done in the next couple weeks?

Macybaby 10-07-2016 08:21 AM

I've been looking forward to this - spent the last two weekend making jelly - ended up with 12 dozen jars, and 14 different flavors.

DH and I will be leaving for vacation next Thursday too, so I need to get plenty of sewing before I leave. I am taking a hand project with me, but past experience has shown I don't usually have much free time to work on it. I get seriously motion sick if I try to hand sew in the car, otherwise I'd have hours to work on it!.

I am currently working on an "Oh my gosh" quilt, and also want to catch up my of 365 blocks a year quilt. I want to get started on teh quilt for my Sis, as I may need more coordinating fabric (medallion type quilt) and it would be great to have that figured out as I know DH and I will be stopping at some quilt shops on our trip.

I asked DH if he wanted to plan any stops at Sporting Goods stores, he said based on what he's got, he has no business walking into one of those. I told him based on my stash, I have no business going to any quilt shops!

kristakz 10-07-2016 08:42 AM

I'm in! Working on a customer quilt today that I want to get finished. And I have a charity quilt for our local "Quilts for Fort McMurray" project on the go. Must be done for the guild meeting at the end of this month, so that's high on the list. After those two, I have a couple of other charity projects that should be longarmed before Wednesday, so that's probably the sum total of my weekend

Doggramma 10-07-2016 10:09 AM

We're leaving tonight so I can go to the AQS show in Des Moines tomorrow. It was a sudden decision! Then on Sunday I'm hoping to continue working on my Halloween quilt using the Dresden Neighborhood pattern.

rryder 10-07-2016 11:31 AM

I'm in. I'll be working on a 12" square art quilt that is for a fundraiser for our local gallery. I've never done a quilt that small before, so am at a little bit of a loss as to how to get started. Right now I'm experimenting with collaging some handprinted fabric. If that goes well, I'll incorporate it into the quilt. I think it's going to be an abstract landscape. Wish me luck.

I think I'll be in - I just finished the binding on a ribbon box quilt yesterday and will hopefully be starting a quilted batik handbag this weekend.

che 10-07-2016 01:16 PM

I'm new to the Quilting Board - is this monthly?

daisydawg 10-07-2016 02:09 PM

Just finished stitching my binding, now I have to pick something else to work/finish on.

Altairss 10-07-2016 02:16 PM

No not really just when a longer holiday weekend pops up or when Raggiemom decides to host a thread for one they are thankfully fairly frequently. In the beginning post the next date for one is posted

I'm jumping on Saturday morning after spending too many hours today following Tracking Hurricane Matthew on TV. Got family in GA who live in a VERY low-lying area southwest of Savannah. They had the wisdom to leave this morning and are 3 hours inland at a hotel. But we are all worried about the storm surges which are now predicted to be between 6 to 10 feet in their neighborhood. Hence my TV obsession today.

But I'm exhausted mentally, am headed to bed early, and want to distract myself most of tomorrow. I'm doing sorting, discarding, rearranging, and divesting in prep for yet another move soon. Also got to start on Christmas quilts and gifts.

This is what I started with this morning.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps8hqnfmf4.jpg

This is made with assorted white, and 13 solid fabrics - but they are ombre so it looks like way more. I'm making enough blocks for a 60" x 60" throw. I figured that was going to be enough work! It's two blocks that alternate.

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psilduxd8a.jpg

Got the 4 patch ready for the white corners to be sewn on

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psklng2rtu.jpg

And I have all the 9 patch sewn but not pressed yet. My husband came upstairs and said it looked like I was sewing confetti! -

Hi everyone! No sewing for me this weekend unless you count the needlepoint Christmas stocking I brought along on our trip. We have been meandering from home to Las Vegas the past 2 weeks and leave Sunday for a week of driving back home.
I got to spend 2 days and lots of $$ at Missouri Star, and also visited Dodge City, Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta, & Grand Canyon on the way. We have a beautiful country and have enjoyed delightful weather all the way.
We are traveling in our fifth wheel camper.

Macybaby 10-07-2016 06:29 PM

Thimblebug - that is so cute! would love to see the others you've already done.

Same here...and Macybaby I like the looks of your project too. It's going to be fantastic.

I am going to try to finish a warm wishes baby quilt this weekend but I may not be able to spend time on my machine until Sunday evening. Today we are working to button-up our summer home on an island off the coast of Maine. Water will be shut off in another week to the island so I like to get all my laundry and cleaning done. Then I will drag my patio furniture in, roll up garden hoses, strip the garden of my last surviving tomatoes, beets and carrots and maybe run the rotatiller through once before putting it away. I also cover all of my furniture with old sheets. It's always a sad time of year...summers fly by so quickly.

Karamarie 10-08-2016 04:04 AM

I will be FMQ 4 quilts, catching up after I had my big machine tuned up. They are all quilts I put together with my Featherweight using up squares and strips. They are not big so won't take that long. My 8 year old Grandson is here and wants to sew so I have to find something for him to do. I think I will trace a pattern of some kind of character and have him hand stitch just following the lines of the pattern. Love those Grandkids but they think they have to do a project when they're at this Grandmas. Glad I can do it.

Raggiemom 10-08-2016 04:05 AM

Dedemac, I hope your job interview went well.

rryder, good luck with your quilt! :)

che, as altairss said, we try to do these fairly often. There is almost one every month, I generally try to schedule them on long American holiday weekends as that seems to work best for the majority of the people on the board. It's always fun to see what others are working on and find inspiration for new projects of our own. Sometimes people are shopping to add to their stash or organizing their work rooms over the weekend. If you have any other questions, please ask.

Lots of work getting done on here. I hope to upload some pictures later. I also have some room organization to do :)

Katie 10-08-2016 04:34 AM

I love that I caught this in progress this time. I will be working on my studio today, lots of sorting and purging, and with alot of luck will be quilting tomorrow. The weather here is supposed to be perfect so I really hope that I can stay focused.

DebraK 10-08-2016 05:49 AM

The picture is kind of misleading. The blocks finish at 12". They look miniature in the photo.

zozee 10-08-2016 06:51 AM

I'm finally going to start my selvage lamp project and hope to finish it, barring trouble, by early afternoon. Then I want to finish a bassinet crib bumper., finish a log cabin pillowcase, for and start on a log cabin quilt. That should keep me out of prison for the weekend.

The lamp, which I painted turquoise a couple months ago, is more than ready for some lampshade love.

Foreground pile: selvages I'll start with
background pile: extra if I need them

Thanks to everyone again for sending me your castoff selvages for this makeover. Stay tuned!
