Virtual Retreat - Extreme Home Sewing Edition

Hey all, I've got a three day weekend and I'm looking to get a lot of projects done! Anyone interested in joining me in a virtual sewing retreat?

Here's my rather ambitious list:

1. Hem Anita's skirt

2. Hem Uncle Dave's work pants

3. Finish piecing Nana's Quilt Top. Sandwich, quilt, and bind.

4. Cut out and sew two pairs of pants for Jack.

5. Finish Jack's Ranger Coat.

6. Cut out and sew three shirts for Jack.

7. Finish my purple surcoat.

Its enough to keep me busy for several weeks, guess we'll have to see how far I get.

Suze9395 05-23-2013 04:44 PM

Holy moly, that is quite a list. I am hoping to get some sewing done this weekend. I have 4 baby quilts to make for co-workers. Got to get busy!

Annaquilts 05-23-2013 04:46 PM

Hmmm wrong type of sewing. I want to quilt.

Angel Bear 05-23-2013 04:47 PM

I'm tired just reading your list! ;)

Gannyrosie 05-23-2013 04:49 PM

Ditto, Angel Bear. No way I would even attempt that list.

SewFarBehind 05-23-2013 04:54 PM

I'm exhausted now! That's some more list. Be sure to tell us what you did accomplish! I'll be cleaning and organizing my workroom and sewing some flannel baby blankets.

Its an open sewing weekend - anything goes! I have to force myself to make garments these days as I prefer quilting but its getting to crunch time - Ragnarok is in a month and we need garb.

Julie R 05-23-2013 05:15 PM

I'll join in on Sunday and Monday (holiday). I need to bind some charity quilts.

Quiltngolfer 05-24-2013 02:39 AM

I'm starting a Scrappy Bargello quilt today. I will grab a minute to sew whenever I can. I have strips already cut for my first two sections. I have family coming in Saturday for a graduation, so I probably won't get much done this weekend. Today it will be sew a little, clean a little.

bigredharley 05-24-2013 04:00 AM

I'm in. Borders then quilting a baby girl quilt, cut and sew a baby boy quilt, then start on one for ME! And the bonus - my boss gave us the afternoon off with pay today - YIPEE!

charsuewilson 05-24-2013 04:15 AM

I'll join in. Gotta finish D9P, baby quilt, then start sewing postage stamp, and UFOs.

kristakz 05-24-2013 04:38 AM

I'm actually heading out the door to a real-life quilting weekend in about 10 minutes. But it's a "sleep at home" retreat, so I'll try to check in when I get home. I have lots I want to accomplish - finish a quilt from my last retreat, make pieced borders for my swoon quilt, and maybe start a new project.

GingerK 05-24-2013 04:38 AM

I too have a three day week end and would love to join you. But we have a wedding to attend tomorrow and are staying overnight, then a attending a Sunday morning brunch for out of town guests and finally, hoping to spend a couple of hours with the DGD's in the afternoon, before heading home. I'll be able to spend a couple of hours at the machine today while I catch up on laundry (I hope!!) I'm working on a controlled scrappy Asian. Only 20 something blocks to finish!

SewExtremeSeams 05-24-2013 05:04 AM

I have a baby quilt already glued and reading to tie, then, bind. Really want to get this done since I now have two other baby quilts to be done. :D

Mrs B 05-24-2013 02:39 PM

I'm in too. I've cut out two dresses for my DD who is off overseas next week have to get them and another one finished by Tuesday.
So my list: Finish the green satin dress for the wedding
Sew up the grey dress already cut out
Cut out and sew up the purple and white stripe dress
Alter the white T shirt top
And maybe cut out and sew a simple top
Phew that will kep me busy till Tuesday

kaelynangelfoot 05-24-2013 02:46 PM

Great! I'm so glad to have so many people join in. YOU CAN DO IT! ready, set, sew??

Raggiemom 05-24-2013 02:52 PM

I'll join you! I have several projects in process that I would love to finish.

Pat625 05-24-2013 05:39 PM

1. make 2 child size Bow Tucks bags for 5 year old grandaughters
2. Complete a Lone Star UFO, so I can begin to make one as a gift..need to work out the kinks
3. Begin Neddlecases and Pincushions for a swap

Off now to gather fabrics etc..See everyone in the AM

How does a virtual retreat work? Do you have a special chat room that you use? Going to be out of town all day tomorrow and not sure what the rest of the weekend hold but do want to finish my Wild Thing project this weekend.

Thanks for explaining to the new kid!!

Onetomatoplant 05-24-2013 09:42 PM

I'm in the FMQ stage of my first quilt - I need to be done or almost done this weekend but it's exhausting! I know I'm too tense, but the wrestling is also tiring. Anyway, I will be a quilting fool!

petthefabric 05-24-2013 10:37 PM

Yeh. Me Too.
Tomorrow AM will work with customer to LAQ on my machine.
PM Finish an Inktense daylily; needs more color and quilting in background. Then binding.
Sunday is church, day of rest and Bible study
Monday it's finish Fresno Flats piecing and quilting. Binding when I need hand work.
Then I can start a NEW project: my mind is already there.

wishfulthinking 05-25-2013 02:53 AM

Today is the first day of hubby's vacation from work. We aren't going anywhere, but usually it's impossible for me to get anything done when he is home. So likely, no sewing for me:(.

grann of 6 05-25-2013 03:30 AM

I'm in. I have a couple quilts all ready to be bound. I have 2 more to be sandwiched and quilted on the long arm. I have 2 more that have to be prepped for binding. Then when/if I get those done, I have a HST quilt top half done that has to be finished sewing together. When I get those done I can start on quilts for Oklahoma. I still have a couple for Hurricane Sandy Victims to finish too. Good thing its a long weekend, and no plans. I'm going to make myself some potato salad this morning, and eat hot dogs and potato salad all weekend....all by myself.

Furball 05-25-2013 03:59 AM

My weekend goals beyond weeding are:
1. Sandwich, FMQ, and bind baby charity quilt
2. Complete piecing of another baby charity quilt
3. Sandwich, FMQ, and bind quilt 2
4. Hem jeans for DH
5. Use Living Social coupon in conjunction with 25% off sale to get $66.67 merchandise for $25 at local fabric store

Julie in NM 05-25-2013 04:13 AM

Need more coffee first!

klgls 05-25-2013 04:18 AM

One quilt to sandwich and FMQ on. Another to finish piecing. I sure hope it rains like its suppose to - otherwise I'm going to want to be outside. :)

KalamaQuilts 05-25-2013 04:56 AM

I'll be cheerfully in, jammies on, once I get back from taking my mother to the cemetery for Memorial Day. It is quite a drive, I may just lay my head on the laptop and listen :) sewing all day tomorrow though!

tessagin 05-25-2013 05:07 AM

As I take a few breaths I might get some sewing or piecing done. Have enough to do to take up North in couple weeks.

ALl you have to do is set up your sewing machine and start working. Then check in every so often to see what people are up to

I am knitting a hat for ds2's gf. She is moving to Minneapolis in Sept for 9 months so she needs something warm. His other friend is moving to Ill so I will be starting her one also. Then I hope to get some hand quilting done and make a couple of t-shirt pillows for a friend. Keep busy everyone.

Drocket1 05-25-2013 05:26 AM

I'm in! I need to do some picking up and clean up the kitchen, laundry. Hope to embroider some tea towels, make the block of the month for quilt quild and work on quilting the borders of a Christmas throw!

Pat625 05-25-2013 05:30 AM

Up and ready to begin..first to tackle the lone star UFO..Just watched a few videos on the Y seam, so hoping it goes OK...If I can get the top pieced I have something to take to work on when we go to the family BBQ Monday..have to have something to do when everyone is out swimming, since I can no longer breathe in the heat..I can't sit and watch tv anymore..too boring! Later when I have to run a few errands I need to get a little fabric to add to what I have for the DGD bow tucks purses..They want them to match the quilts I just made them, but I think I will be short on one fabric...SO off I go-will check back later!

LTeachergeorge 05-25-2013 06:03 AM

I'm in also. Haven't sewn for about six weeks since knee replacement surgery. Think I've finally turned a corner and am ready to finish some of my UFO's!! Do we check in on this thread?

Well, my quilting ideas came to a screeching halt when the toilet decided to malfunction. So I have taken a trip to Lowes, got the part, and fixed the toilet. Now to get down to the sewing studio and get going. I have lost my momentum. Good thing you guys are around to spur me on.:D

DebraK 05-25-2013 07:05 AM

I'm making blocks to go in a memory quilt for a recently widowed friend. She wants some blocks and symbols in the quilt to reflect some of her husbands favorite things. Here is a block I finished last night. Can you tell what it is? I'm working on a paper pieced block next that I'll share when I finish later today. It may take me awhile, because PP isn't exactly what I do best.

Crab?? I have the 4 corners for the lone star cut..now to cut the triangles.....While cutting, I cut down the leftover pieces of muslin for my string quilt..I try to cut down scraps as I cut projects now, so I don't get overwhelmed with scraps..I have a few boxes already waiting to be cut down- don't need to add to it..

Late start here and work a half day tomorrow BUT I'm in. If work is quiet I can continue there (It's a quilt museum)! I am enlarging rubber stamps to make appliques with the makers approval. Have to string some blocks for the background. I look for the fastest and easiest backgrounds because I love applique and can't stand spending too much time piecing!! The purple owls are already a top and off to the quilter. The little girls with a teddy in hand are for today. Later gator.

Luv Quilts and Cats 05-25-2013 07:39 AM

I have three days off too and I wrote in my calendar SEW! SEW! SEW! So far, haven't done any, catching up w/chores. So today may be a no go but tomorrow and Monday are MINE!

DebraK 05-25-2013 07:48 AM

yes, thank you ;-) I copied Lucy Fazely's idea from "March of the Crab's".

I've yet to get up the courage for a lone star. Good luck.

grann of 6 05-25-2013 08:02 AM

I just got the binding sewed on the vintage quilt, just have to fold and stitch down to front by machine. This is a charity quilt, so I want it to be easily abused, so everything is done by machine. Will post a pic when (if) I get finished. Time for lunch now.

kaelynangelfoot 05-25-2013 08:15 AM

Just finished hemming the work pants... and I would have finished the skirt but I couldn't find the marking on it, so it will have to wait until the owner can let me measure it again.

My DH wanted to have some friends over for the Red Wings game tonight so I will have to take a break to clean up a bit but I'm so far happy with how my weekend is going!

Its so great to hear about the projects, and the crab block is really cute. I love all the pictures. @applique - those look very ambitious! I hope to get something done today worth photographing.

@amelia, a virtual retreat is a support group here on the boards. We get working and post pictures/comments to encourage each other in our crafty endeavors.
