Would anyone else be interested in a virtual section for hand quilting? Since I've started it seems like since there are relatively few posts on hand quilting, they get lost easily (pushed down the list) and it would be nice to have them in one place to refer to.

Actually, a section for FMQ would be nice too, I think. It comes up more often, but having all the threads on tips and tricks in one place would be handy.

dkabasketlady 03-02-2011 06:59 AM

I'd love to see a section for hand quilting only(since I'm trying to hand quilt all my quilts), but don't know if there's really very many of us on here.
You're right about it getting pushed down the list, but there's a lot of posts every day.

Bamagal 03-02-2011 07:05 AM

I prefer to hand quilt too

dslone 03-02-2011 07:15 AM

I would like it too. I love to hand quilt.

Butterflyblue 03-02-2011 07:31 AM

See, I'm amazed at how many hand quilters come out of the woodwork!

dpparris 03-02-2011 07:32 AM

I hand quilt as well. Great idea!

YOu can pm the MOderator of PatriceJ and discuss it with her. She would be the one to yeah or nah....LOL. Sounds wonderful since I am a handquilter also. Good luck.

If they cannot do this, then a suggestion would be to make sure the word "handquilt" is in your topiic and we can "search" for the word and find the posts. Or go to Personal Diary section, and start a thread there for Handquilters. WE can go in and post every day and it's all in one place. :)

Some of my stipple hand quilting. I am a hand quilter and proud. LOL

I would love a section for hand-quilting. It may get looked down on as "old-fashioned" but I like it. :)

debbieumphress 03-02-2011 07:46 AM

Hand quilters are few these days with all the new things BUT...........we are still in demand. LOL. I do hand quilting for people, and always have a "job" going. I love that art and I passed it on to my Granddaughter, who can machien quilt and hand stitch. Her Mimi is a quilter too but machines. So she has learned both. I like the personal touch and love put into a hand quilt. More time, but oh so worth it.

Thanks Debbie for the suggestions. I thought before I PM'd Patrice I would see if there was any interest or if it was just me. I do try to put "hand quilting" or similar in my topic titles to make them searchable, but topic titles are one of those things some people just don't utilize like they ought to... :D :D

irishrose 03-02-2011 07:47 AM

I can't imagine a hand quilter feeling looked down upon. I have nothing but admiration for someone with that skill. I don't handquilt, but I treasure any hand quilted items I have.

debbieumphress 03-02-2011 07:48 AM

If you start a Personal Diary page, we can check there. Call it Diary of a Hand Quilter, I will start it if you like. But I have one already so thought you might or someone else. :):)
We can post pictures in there and everything.

Borntohandquilt 03-02-2011 07:49 AM

Of course I will be interested in a section for hand quilting! You can put me on your list, Butterflyblue....

Hello in Germany... I lived there 2 yrs in Bad Kreuznach (sp). Dad was army. I started knidergarten there. Nice to meet you. Love your avatar.

Tilladare 03-02-2011 08:02 AM

Add me to the list of people who would LOVE a virtual section for hand quilting!

Marye 03-02-2011 08:05 AM

Will you teach how to do hand quilting also, I want to learn how. Teaching an oldie new ways I might need all the help on this board.

the casual quilter 03-02-2011 08:06 AM

I'd like to see one. I don't hand quilt much, but I think this would be a great addition. Along that line - if there are people in our internet community that hand quilt for others (for pay of course) I'd be interested in that. I get inquiries for that every so often and don't know where to refer the calls to.

Sadiemae 03-02-2011 08:13 AM

I can't do hand quilting, but I love to see what you created.

Kitsie 03-02-2011 08:20 AM

I want to try hand quilting, too and would love a category just for that.

Great idea!

NDQuilts 03-02-2011 08:22 AM

I'm a handquilter and so happy to share any knowledge or admire others work.

lisainmo 03-02-2011 08:29 AM

I would love it...I would love to LEARN to hand quilt. :)

Tulip 03-02-2011 08:32 AM

I to would love to see a section on Hand Quilting. What a great idea.
Tulip

sueisallaboutquilts 03-02-2011 09:39 AM

That's a wonderful idea!!!!!!! I'm a hand quilter but can always improve.
And I am starting MQ and need a TON of help! :D:D

TwinRiverFarm 03-02-2011 10:20 AM

I hand quilt too, which is why there are so many WIPs in my sewing room! DH said hand quilting is my therapy session, and I reminded him that I was actually saving him $75 an hour this way.

quiltlady37 03-02-2011 10:31 AM

I am also a handquilter.

OKLAHOMA PEACH 03-02-2011 11:20 AM

I am hand piecing one right now, (first one) and will be starting to quilt it in a couple of weeks, and would love a special place for tips and ideas.

JaKnits 03-02-2011 11:33 AM

I would love to see a section for hand quilting. I just bought a laptop hoop and can't wait to get my quilt basted so I can start using it!

I think there are many of us who do both hand quilting and fmq on a machine. I prefer the look of hand quilting, but sometimes like the speed of machine quilting. :D

I brought some squares to work on at one quilters guild meeting. I just can't sit still without some project to work on - it helps with the social anxiety. The old biddies that were there took one look at me & just walked away to gossip with their friends (not about me, just walked away). It's one of the reasons that I will not go back to that local quild.

Thank you! My avatar shows a little part of one of my quilts with freehand quilted patterns. Love to do that.
My uncle and his family lives near Bad Kreuznach, it is such a beautiful area there!

Quilt Mom 03-02-2011 12:39 PM

It would be great to have a virtual section for the topic of hand quilting. I keep trying, but have a long way to go to be good at it. Maybe some of you experienced hand quilters can give tips for those of us less proficient.

ann clare 03-02-2011 12:50 PM

I too am a hand quilter.

max's grandma 03-02-2011 02:06 PM

I am also a hand quilter and I would love one.

Sadiemae 03-02-2011 06:11 PM

I keep hoping with more time I will be able to sew by hand again. I really miss embroidering. I think hand quilting small items to learn how would be fun.

juliea9967 03-02-2011 06:47 PM

I don't think it is old fashioned. I would never do it cause it takes to long and I wouldn't have the patience for it. But I sure admire all the people who do hand quilting, and they love doing it. Keep up the good work you guys! You are definitely admired!

Renee110 03-02-2011 07:07 PM

I would definitely be visiting the handquilting section if there is one! I wouldn't call myself a handquilter, as I am working on my first ever quilt, but I am handquilting it right now. I spend 2 hours a night doing it, and love it. In a way I can't wait till it's finished and I can use it, but I love having it to quilt.

I would love that! Both handquilting and FMQ. Great idea

redkimba 03-03-2011 07:04 AM

FMQ? what's FMQ? I probably know, but the coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

never mind - found the definition (Free Motion Quilting)

winterpromise31 03-03-2011 07:08 AM

I don't know how to hand quilt, but it's on my list of things to learn! I would love to see a section devoted to it so that I can learn.
