So I ran to Wal-mart yesterday afternoon to pick up some work supplies. As I meandered through the store I saw they are remodeling a lot.

I went to to the back of the store and the entire craft / sewing area was being revamped and rearranged.

Well as I looked they had a bunch of fabric on carts being brought out. Now I want to start by saying I realize that Wal-Mart fabric is a different grade than LQS, but the prints they were bringing out were WONDERFUL! On top of that, they have "families" of fabrics just like my LQS has. So you didn't have to guess if it would coordinate or not.

I just wanted to put this out there. If they indeed are going to have this moving forward (it's never been offered in my area before) I'm super excited. I love my LQS, but this would be a great alternative for doing quilts that when you're budget is tight, or you want more bang for your buck, etc.

Did I mention the price on it was anywhere from 3.75 to 4.50 a yard? I didn't have time to pick any up yesterday, but plan on going after work today to get some just to try it out.

Would wash and dry before using to help prevent uneven shrinking. go for it!!

Yeah, my walmart is starting to get better fabrics also. Not as high quality as the LQS but definitely better than what I have seen there before.

I've read other posts where their fabric/crafts departments were expanding as well. I sure hope it comes to La Grande. Last time I was in there I saw a whole bunch of new fabrics on shelves with coordinating families. I hope they are still there on Friday.

Ours continues to get in those lovely "families" too. they are very hard to resist.

Ours here in Placerville sure has gotten new and better fabrics. They still aren't quite the quality of LQS - not quite as nice a hand, but when I'm paying $2.97 to 4.97 a yard, I don't feel so guilty about wasting fabric when I'm learning. I bought $25.00 worth of fabric in bright florals and stripes (all in a fabric family) brought them home, washed them in hot water and dried them in a hot dryer...trying to make sure that it could hold up. Not any more shrinkage than I'm getting from LQS fabs. I've been using them to practice blocks and teaching my nephew's wife to quilt. Still have lots of fabric to play with. I saw that at my bro's Wal-mart last month. I was kinda giddy because I hadn't seen fabric at a wal-mart for a while.

The selection and quality WAS better. AND they had more hip, current fabrics. Of course, there was some cheapy cringers there, but I've got two eyes, I can pick what I like!

I really think this is a good thing for their PR. Treat customers with respect like you're HAPPY they're there, not "this is what you get, deal".

When I walked into the local Wal-Mart the other day I saw a big wire bin of fabric on sale. My heart sank, I thought they were getting rid of the fabric section. So I walked back there and to my delight they were stocking the shelves with NEW fabric and fabric families!!! Yeah.
