I went on line after all you quilters said to get the one that goes with your machine. i ordered a walking foot for my Viking 6000 series (old metal) for $39.95, plus a needle clamp attachment screw, from Discount Sewing Machine in Lakeway, Texas. They only do PayPal or check so did check and can not wait.

I have a Viking 630, supposedly all metal parts. What model do you have? What a timely topic. My Viking is at the repair shop, getting cleaned, and on my list of things to buy that I gave the guy, was a walking foot. He made sure I was aware that it wouyld be a little over $100

The poor thing's been gone since Friday :(

I didn't think they were that expensive

I can't imagine life without a walking foot - no pleats, no puckers, just smooth stitching and fabric! For those of you who have had a bad experience, I would suggest it's worth trying again but, as has already been said, don't go for a cheap option.

Question...what to look for to decide which types/brands are of good quality and those of lesser quality, other than price comparing?

All metal vs. plastic when possible.

Definitely worth buying!

Thank you. So what brand of walking foot do you recommend from your experience?

S'm sorry you aren't getting along with your Brother. I love mine, and both my daughters have them. I do notice a difference in the quality between the three machines--the lighter ones get testy. I use the walking foot which came with the machine, and it has worked really well. I don't like not being able to back tack to tie off the last stitch, but that's the only problem.

I still believe in the Pfaff built in even feed walking foot which comes in the higher priced Pfaffs and Janomes HOWEVER, check e-bay and craig's list for the Pfaff 7550 or 7570 which were still made in Germany and can be purchased for a fraction of the cost of the new ones made in China. They are wonderful.

They are an absolute necessity!!

I have 3 machines (2 Brothers and aa White) and I use them all. They all came with walking feet. They all are good quality and I have no problems with them and I can back stitch with all of them.
