My husband had surgery yesterday and there was a walmart close to the hospital. I waited patiently for them to take him to OR and ran for my car.

They had alot of fabric for sale at 1.00 & 1.50 per yard. Over 200.00 later..... he was out of recovery, in a room and explained to the Dr. that their must be a Walmart close!

He's doing fine and comes home today!

Terrible after 30 years of marriage he knows me so well.

lindy-2 04-01-2011 06:47 AM

It is amazing what fabric shopping can do for you!!!!

karenpatrick 04-01-2011 06:57 AM

Hope the surgery was for something not too serious. Hope he's doing well. I was at Walmart yesterday and checked the fab department and they only had a few bolts of clearence stuff so I found one (only 1) that I liked so I took it to the cutting table but no one ever showed up to cut it for me so I left.

ssnare 04-01-2011 07:01 AM

Yes, I believe he knows you.

Grama Lehr 04-01-2011 07:05 AM

Why waste time, sitting around the hospital waiting room?? What could you do? Catch some really nasty bug? I say that you took lemons and made lemon aid!! :P
You are a true inspiration :!:

Granna of 5 04-01-2011 07:15 AM

That is a good one, never thought about that.

cjomomma 04-01-2011 07:37 AM

LOL!! I'm only laughing because that sounds like something I would have done. Now I have to go check my WM.

tess10 04-01-2011 08:21 AM

He is coming home from hospital today and I am coming home with lots of new fabric..... Need to start a scrap quilt soon!!!

countrycottage 04-01-2011 08:21 AM

You were picking out fabric for his Recovery quilt and thats my story, glad he's doing well and will come home today wouldn't want to have to spend NON-visiting hours back at Walmart

Krystyna 04-02-2011 03:31 AM

That's love! Yesterday was our 22nd anniversary and we went to Walmart. Hahaha! Lots of fabric at $2/yard. I "only" spent $78.

I hate waiting for someone to have surgery, usually it is several hours! I go for a walk or shopping if something is nearby. My MIL thinks that is awful.:)

suesembroidery 04-02-2011 04:40 AM

We got our daughter a sign that states this. "When I die, I want to be put next to a Wal-Mart, so my wife will vist my grave." or something like that.

Yup that happens in my walmart too. I know a person who needed the fabric and when no one showed up she cut her own and took the bolt and all to the front and let them deal with it. And she had even told another lady and this other lady (I don't know) did the same. I later heard them in front that they hated when that happened and they needed to keep someone back there.

The last time I bought fabric at Walmart it took forever for someone to come wait on me. I found the scissors and cut my fabric and another customer's fabric. (Well, I did work at Hancock Fabrics in 1978...does that make me a professional?) If only I knew how to work that little computer machine to make the pricetag.

This is hilarious. I can just see you burning rubber getting out of the hosp. parking lot. Sounds like me if there was a casino nearby.

clsurz 04-02-2011 08:06 AM

About 3 weeks ago while going to Jesup for my sew day with some ladies I stopped at the Walmart there since it was only 9 am and the same thing happened there. I just happened in when the craft dept. manager had put tons of bolts from 1 to 2.50 a yard on sale. In Hinesville it was full price for same bolts of fabric which was priced from $5.95 on up per yard.

I loaded up as well and bought several different fabrics and some I took what was left on bolts. I spent about $150.

They haven't had it since though with cotton fabrics. Now they have the fleece on sale in both towns down to about $4.44 a yard for fleece that retails for between $8 - $12 a yard. Haven't touched those yet hoping it will go down a bit more.

Both Walmarts will loose there sewing department in next couple months so now they are starting to reduce prices.

What city for Walmart?

Greendragon6889 04-02-2011 10:07 AM

And we think they don't pay attention to us..LOl Hope he heals fast..:)

babyboomerquilter 04-02-2011 10:18 AM

Really great deal, and Hubby is doing fine too, what more could a girl ask for?

BellaBoo 04-02-2011 10:52 AM

I'd rather be fabric shopping then in a waiting room. You can't do anything in a waiting room but wish time away.

Hah - I would say more so than a young guy who walked over from the nearby tire /automotive department and cut my fabric for me - I must have had a funny look on my face because he sheepishly smiled and said "it isn't that hard to cut fabric."

Great news that your hubby is doing well...

decky 04-02-2011 05:34 PM

My husband had surgery the first part of December and before they even took him to the or I was out the door heading to the LQS which is about 35 minutes away. I was there a couple of hours and when I got back to the hospital they were just getting him settled into his room. Better than sitting in the hospital waiting.

sewmom 04-02-2011 05:34 PM

I had to laugh when I read this thread. i'm glad your DH is coming doing OK
