This thread was probably NOT started for another debate of the quality of fabrics purchased at WalMart.

There are a gazillion on that topic that are already on this board.

let us try talking about quilting and stay away from politics....

As far as that goes, I've never seen any fabric with "WALMART" printed on the selvage.

You're absolutely right. I just wanted others to know what was happening at out local Walmart, so others might have hopes of seeing fabric return to their stores.

Which is exactly why i went through this topic with a pooper scooper and plastic bags. the smelly deposits are now fertilizing flowers.

i think it's back to normal now. let's hope it stays that way. :-)

I was at the Wal-Mart @ 101 & Camelback (Glendale,Arizona) this morning, and there they were, stacking the shelves with bolts of fabric and I even saw a cutting table. Small but still a cutting table. Does not look like there will be a huge amount of fabric either, but some is better than none. I did see the notions, batting etc there as well. So its beginning, they said it would be the last of June, but it looks like maybe the 2nd week in July ... lol. But all is good, at least there is some progress.

Deborahlees 07-01-2011 09:21 AM

yes, yes, yes,,,,,something is better than nothing....mine is coming also here in Southern California....they said finished by middle of next week.....

RatherB Quilting 07-01-2011 09:59 AM

Wish ours would bring fabric back. Joann's here is actually dowsizing thier quilt fabric area, so it would be nice to have some choices.
Happy for you that you are getting yours back!!!

IBQLTN 07-01-2011 10:26 AM

I was in Wal-Mart in Tampa a couple of weeks ago and they were closing out the 'precuts'. They had 100 charm squares for $9 but I passed because I still had one more quilt shop to visit and the IKEA store!

mmdquilts 07-01-2011 10:29 AM

Oh I so hope that ours will get fabric back! Right now all we have within 25 miles is JoAnne's. I go all the way to Rochester to find a Walmart with fabric!

bjrusty 07-01-2011 10:51 AM

yes yes I was out at ours, and they are putting shelves up for bolts and already have the cutting table up. Also, they had pre-cut 2yd. material on sale, 2yards for $5.00.Of course, I had to buy some for my stach, lol. I live in Florida. HAPPY DAYS. Barb

NewYearsOld 07-01-2011 10:57 AM

We just recently got ours back in Burlington, IA! Just a small amount, but it should make some people happy.

gbquilter 07-01-2011 11:17 AM

Our WalMart got some fabric back in but it was all double knit polyester. Nothing I would want to use for quilting. Haven't checked it out since.

A fellow that works there, don't know if he was the manager, said that they listened to all the requests to bring the fabric back, and that they will be posting a message in the store by the fabric regarding all the requests. Some of the fabric is the same as the fabric lines that they had carried before. Pricing is a little higher, some at $4.95. He also told me that our local store had sold the most fabric in the state. Can't understand why they would have gotten rid of it if that was true! So, I hope the rest of you get your fabric back too!

They had there FQ on sale for 75 cents, I got me some...LOL

llcathey 07-01-2011 12:09 PM

I was told yesterday at the Yelm Wa store that they won't be getting fabric back in, but the one in Lacey Wa is getting there's back which is about 1 hour away, we go once a week so I can start buying there

Quiltaddict 07-01-2011 12:43 PM

The Walmart closest to me did close their fabric department when they turned the store into a Super Walmart. But, I was in the store yesterday and they are putting the fabric department back. It's only about half stocked so far but I'm looking forward to seeing it complete.

I sure hope they get fabric at the new WalMart in Cornelius Oregon. It is 3 miles from me. Jan

I'm in Spring Green, lower Wisconsin. They took it out of Dodgeville and lowered the amount in Richland Center and Baraboo. So I e-mailed them thanking them for doing it since I didn't have to come in and check to see what new was in Then I didn't pick up lots of other stuff I found and my budget was doing great. I wasn't near their housewares anymore. I also told them since I now have to go to Madison to JoAnns for fabric, I just pick up the things I need on the way at Target. I'm sure they didn't like hearing they sent me to Target.
I was sure they had a department just thinking how to get people in. But what I have heard is that they are getting it back in 700 stores. A lady was at their board meeting and that is what she said.

janetter 07-01-2011 06:36 PM

Our Walmart is also starting to stock fabric. They even carry FQ now. Thanks WM

Nancy O. 07-01-2011 07:18 PM

I was in the Walmart in Woodhaven, MI last week and they are setting up the fabric dept. again. I am so happy to see that they did listen to our requests to bring it back. I have purchased some quality fabric from the stores in the past. Will check it out this coming week when I don't have my grandkids to look after.

mrs. fitz 07-01-2011 07:40 PM

Good news for anyone near Secaucus or North Bergen, NJ. Both Walmarts are expanding their craft departments and bringing back fabric. Even more good news, a Joann's has just opened within a reasonable distance, in Paramus NJ. No more long trips using lots of gas to buy a spool of thread.

Cherokeequilter 07-01-2011 08:04 PM

Our Walmart in Canton, GA never lost all the bolt fabrics even when it was announced that they would take it out. Last week I stopped by another Walmart in a nearby town that had removed all the bolt materials and added the pre-cuts. Surprise the ladies in that department were working to mark down all the 2yd pieces to $1.20 - $1.90 and the FQs to $.60. Since our guild is working on quilts for a childrens cancer center nearby, I loaded my basket up. The member in charge of this project just received a list of 25 children just this month so there is a need for a great amount of material. We picked only the best quality available with the brightest colors or fun designs. Just received a call from another guild member and the store in Cumming, GA just put their pre-cuts out at the same prices. They will be restocking the shelves with bolts by the first of August. I usually stop to find a zipper or sewing thread or some heat & bond so all this is great news.

Dee 07-01-2011 09:08 PM

I boght a pattern on one of their sale tables. Had some other books, but fabric won't be returning to our store here in So. E. Pa.

OneMoreQuilt 07-01-2011 09:17 PM

Good for WalMart!

moroni 07-02-2011 12:21 PM

In May I emailed our Raynham, MA WalMart and asked about the fabric being brought back and was told it would not be. I figured because there was a JoAnns just down the street. Well today I took a walk around the store hoping to find fabric and lo and behold they have started filling up several aisles with bolts of fabric, sewing machines, quilting gadgets, etc. A clerk was cutting yardage for a customer. You could tell by the empty places that more would be added soon. YAY

bearisgray 07-02-2011 12:29 PM

There is just something so much more satisfying about buying fabric off a bolt than buying a folded up precut.

Janice Thompson 07-02-2011 03:57 PM

Traverse City, Mi lost their fabric. We have a choice of Joann or LQS.

Jan C 07-02-2011 04:19 PM

In May I visited the Walmart store in Honalulo (?? Spelling). They were just setting up a section of craft / quilting fabic by the yard. I was impressed. I purchased 2 packs of charm squares. They weren't cheap ($12 each) but I wanted a souvenier of my visit to this iconic destination. I could have also purchased matching fat quarters.

wanda lou 07-02-2011 04:23 PM

The prices are a bit higher, But I am happy to see the all the bolts of fabric.
Have fabric will Quilt!

grandma h 07-02-2011 04:33 PM

JUST VISITED OUR LOCAL WALMART IN WOODHAVE , MI. AND SETUPS WERE IN PLACE TO ACCEPT MORE FABRIC BY THE BOLT...YEAH

joyceinoh 07-02-2011 05:56 PM

Our new W=M put in the precut stuff. Some cute stuff but not a real big selection, and not like being able pick and choose and say how much ya want.

kittiebug 07-03-2011 09:23 AM

was in Walmart yesterday, got so cute fabric to make a
baby quilt. Happy they have fabric .. some of my friends

Just call 1-800-walmart and complain. So many people who shop at my local Wal-Mart complained that they decided not to take it out. Unfortunately, now with the new store remodel they've given so little space to the fabric section that they had to get rid of a lot of it via clearance (of course I scooped on that one). With the new remodel, the fabric section is about 1/4 the size it was before. Guess we'll have to call in and complain again.

from an earlier post suggestion i emailed walmart to thank them and got a reply back the next day! they did say that they heard us and would be putting notions and other related sewing items in! i can hardly wait. my dh and nephew both work there. asked my nephew where they were putting it cuz he is a customer service manager and he said he didn't know - that wasn't his department! his brother told him and i quote "dude you're a customer service manager - the whole store is your department!" lol

lucniak 07-05-2011 03:31 AM

I hope so too,Mysister in Me. gets a lot for me lol

tobylehnj 07-22-2011 01:32 PM

I hope our Walmart gets the fabric back too. I have not been in there to see if there is a sign or not. There was none last week....
I don't care for the cut and packaged fabric. There is no real selection... The area is has gotten smaller and the electrionic dept. so big... I so hope they bring fabrics back..

I have heard that 'all' fabric from Walmart is coming back. We have about 5 within a 10 mile radius and 3 of them have decent fabric

not all will get their fabric departments back.

if there is a cluster of walmarts within about the same distance, for example, some might and others won't.

char7439 07-23-2011 03:28 AM

I was in MN to visit my sister and we went to a super Walmart 12 miles from her. They didn't have a fabric department at all. so I asked why. They said they didn't want to compete with a local store that sells fabric. It's a Ben Franklin! The nearest Quilt shop is over 30 miles away.Go figure!

Lorae Radunz 09-18-2011 04:36 PM

I was told our WM was told they could have fabric & she turned it down. :( When the community heard WM was coming to town, everyone was so excited. They thought they would have fabric & crafts. Big disappointment!! There is a quilt guild in the area & they're hoping for fab. I don't think writing anymore letters will help. Guess we'll have to continue driving a distance to get what we need. :(

tobylehnj 09-19-2011 04:49 AM

With the promise of a super walmart in our small town, the open walmart in the next town ovr, 15 miles away, they have added many food items, frozen and canned as well as produce to the store. The craft and fabric department has gotten smaller and I dont see then adding a fabric department back. They have some pre-packaged fabriic and such, but I don't see them going back to bolts. The closest fabric store is a small storefront with yarns for knitting and a wall of assorted fabrics. After that, you must travel 30 miles in either direction to find a Joanne's or quilt shop....
