I just received a flyer today announcing the return of our fabric dept. and the pictures showed rows of beautiful color and fabric choices, titaniam scissors only $6.97 and up. I have to say I just may be paying them a visit real soon and checking out the quality of the fabric since so many of you have raved about the fabrics. :D :D :D

A member of our local quilt group called WM headquarters in Arkansas & was told that EVENTUALLY all WM will get fabric dept. back. However, when I asked my WM dept. friend, I was told that yes, that was correct but it will be when our new supercenter is built. Right now the Super WM is just a dream, so maybe someday....

I purchased the whole bolt but when I got home and compared it to what I had bought at the quilt shop I could immediately feel the difference in the quality of the two fabrics. Not knocking Walmart, just saying you get what you pay for.

It says fabrics are back, we now have fabrics in over 2,000 stores. New, expanded assortment. It shows a picture of row of fabrics and has a couple of sewing machines on sale. This is the first time Ive seen a flyer with just sewing and crafts. |
Our Coos Bay WalMart just got their fabric dept back. The dept. is smaller but the fabric seems like a better quality and of course, more expensive but worth it. Bolts of fabric are all mixed and not separated by cottons, blends, fleece or anything but at least it is back!

Just went to the local WM and bought Stash Packs, two different coodinating colors two yards each for eight dollars.
|
Got fabric back in the NE TX stores. I tried to thank them on their website, but they wanted my complete life history before letting me comment. Sooo, I had to just shout "Hall-A-Lu-Yah!" in the store!

A couple of months ago I bought some Walmart charm packs. The colors were so bright, perfect I thought for maybe a donation kid quilt, plus 100 squares per pack! Well, I just started using them and I am not pleased. Not one of them is square. Some of the fabrics, the more solid ones, seem okay. Others feel more like window screen! In order to get a square charm I'm having to cut all of them down to 4 1/2 inches. Luckily, I have a ruler that makes it pretty simple. Will see how they work from there, but I think I've learned my lesson!

We were in Oh at my sister in laws Wal-mart and they had put in their new fabric. Very nice and highest we saw was $5.47. Bright colors and plenty to help your stash. I think they are addinf at stores but don't know if it will be all stores.

When I contacted their supplier, I was told that they had contracted to provide 2 and 3 yard packages.
|
I was in our walmart sunday to see if the fabric came back lik ethey said it would. Well if you want to say they have a fabric dept now you can. BUT... its so small hardly any fabric to even choose from. what a disappointment
|
Our Walmart has never gotten rid of their fabric department, but the fabrics they are bringing now, I wouldn't make anything out of this stuff. Except you could make a lot of UGLY quilts with most of it. Hope that changes soon.

We do not even have FQ's in our local store.
|
The pre packaged FQ's at WM i bought I opened one and folded it back up it was not cut straight and you could read through it and it had a lot of sizing in it so back for a refund it went, I will no purchase anymore unless a lot better gray good's it is printed on and not from China

I have been in a few WM in the central Ar area, some have fabrics. The only one I would purchase fabric from is the Mt View WM and their fabric dept was cut down but not out so they still have some good pieces. Most of what I have seen I would not buy, not good enough quality. Like the lady said earlier she was so disappointed after the washing.
I have a nice stash and while I would enjoy some new pieces if I cannot improve on what I have I will simply use what I have and thank God I can still quilt and have quality items to quilt with. I imagine most everyone on this Forum has more than enough fabrics to quilt a long time. WM is taking advantage of its customers by raising prices and selling inferior quality whether by the bolt or ill cut fat quarters. I am sorry I cannot agree with everyone on how wonderful WM is to reinstall their fabric dept but junk is junk. |

Unfortunately for us and our country....most fabric mfg now print/process in China, Pakistan and anywhere else BUT here.........I wonder which ones actually have working mills here in the states and produce from beginning to end here?? Would be interesting to know......WM like any other large corp sees an opportunity to increase profit margin and goes for it, that's how it is. I remember when WM first came on the scene, they advertised only made in America would be sold at their stores....well prices could not be kept low and product availability was not enough to keep that slogan, so here we are world...... |
I also went to a Walmart last week and in a conversation with an employee of Walmart was told that they are putting fabrics back into the stores. She also said that 20,000 stores are on the list for now. I got so excited and needless to say she was excited just giving me the news.

Although I buy American whenever I can, even the best high end fabrics often have at least part of their processing done in foreigh countries. It is just impossible to know with soft goods in particular. I think Walmart as well as other companies must make hard choices today in order just to meet their stockholders expectations and stay in business. This is a tough economy and buying American is not always feasible for those who must make every penny count. Blame it on Washington and the elected representatives who are so out of touch that they loaned billions to overses companies instead of putting our own people to work. |
Fill up your stash while you can. I hear fabric is going to $12.00 a yard. Glad I have enough to last the rest of my life.

I would suggest that you call the 1 800 number and let them know what you think. Our store has finally responded to many many calls apparently because we are getting fabric back.
|
Our Walmart never had fabric, and we were told that we would NEVER have any. Boy...was I surprised to see some 5 yd bolts on an end cap last week!!! ( $5.00 each!!!) No cottons, but some decent nylon that I will go back to pick up this week, (payday ;) ), that will be perfect for making fabric shopping bags. I want to make some that will roll up tiny enough to "live" in a purse. A co-worker gave one to each of us last C'mas. I use mine at least 2-3 times a week.
Now....if we can just get them to bring in some cottons!!! I worked at this store from when it was being built, until almost a year after it opened, so I am hoping I might have a bit of "pull" with management. ;) Yeah right!!! LOL Patti |
