Our store here in Adrian, MI will but not sure on date!!

Doris1334 07-29-2011 05:47 AM

JoAnn's is is definitly over priced. Their backing material is
one to two dollars more expensive than W. Mart or my local Ben Franklin store. Ben Franklin has nice material.

Ours marked all the precuts WAY down and we were told a fabric dept. would be back. But now they say no,,,I wish they would make up their minds!!!!

I also said I've heard that when fabric comes back, there aren't people who know how to cut it. She said, well, I know how to cut and so do the other ladies who work here. She said she would look forward to cutting my fabric. Such a nice experience. I'll check back there to see when it happens. :D

We are supposed to be getting our FD back on the western slope in the next couple of weeks ! I cannot wait, this will help many people out. Then Jo-Ann's is also coming back in November in the mall.
I am sure Wally will hire the right people to cut the fabric and not jeopardize their bringing it back that way.

AngieS 07-29-2011 05:58 AM

I'm in W. KY and our's is already back. We have things that we didn't have before. More rulers-love the price on the rulers! ;)

ediedarlene 07-29-2011 06:02 AM

I went to my local Walmart here in town and looked where they had moved all the sewing notions to, gone, everything gone!!! I had already been told that the fabric dept. would be coming back so I found a clerk and asked where the fabric dept. was. She pointed it out and told me that it wasn't completely finished and even though they have bolts of fabric there would be no cutting until the dept. was fully operational. I browsed through the bolts that they had out and found a couple I think I need for something. Can't wait to see what else they bring back. I only wish that they would bring back x-stitch fabric on the bolts as well. The prices looked very reasonable, $4.95 for some fabric and $3.95 for others. This is going to be where I build my stash of some of the staples.

shamrock 07-29-2011 06:04 AM

Our local WM did away with fabric when they built the new store. Now they are putting it back, it looks as if they threw it all in big bins when they closed, then pulled it back out for the new store. It's all wrinkled and off the bolt, needs a lot of work to make a bettr presentation. I'm not a WM shopper, but once in awhilr I'll pick up something there. Abbyjanke & I went to the newly renovated (moved) Joann's yesterday. It was a disappointment. She had fabric to match, they had the same print, but the cloth was like tissue paper. Very poor quality.

llcathey 07-29-2011 06:06 AM

hope they get more things at are WalMart, I love rulers but don't like paying the big bucks for them ,try to have a coupon before I buy, Joann's I got a 26.99 for 40 percent off was happy with that

southernmema 07-29-2011 06:22 AM

One day not long ago, I was in my local WM and noticed some "big" bosses in the store. I walked up to them in their little circle and said, "Excuse me, but the rumor mill is alive and well, and I just want to know what your plans are with the fabric dept." One of them replied, "We're not taking away your fabric, in fact, we are expanding the dept. so it will be bigger and better." I thanked him immensely and proceeded back to the fabric. Two times recently I have seen fabric in WM that I liked and when I went back to purchase a few days later, it was GONE! This tells me that there are a lot of people buying fabric in WM. Also, if you like it, better get it while the gettin's good.

rjwilder 07-29-2011 06:55 AM

I'm in Calif. and my local store is being updated and the fabric/craft department has been cut down in size to a few rows of fabric. I asked about the department getting more fabric and was told they would be getting lots of new fabrics on bolts and the department would be made lots bigger. Whew! I was worried, I have a JoAnn's nearbuy buy wowzie the prices are crazy expensive.

Kath12 07-29-2011 07:18 AM

If you can't find anyone to cut your fabric, take out your cellphone and call the store. They will page someone for you. How do I know? I answer the phone for my local WM and customers who can't locate anyone gives me a call. Our WM will be getting their fabric back but I don't know when.

PKITTY1 07-29-2011 07:28 AM

The one Wal-Mart that had fabric that I go to in Franklin TN did get their bolt fabric back but the department is smaller. Has anyone else seen this phenonenom? After the remodel, this Wal-Mart got, in addition to bolt fabric, the precuts (charms, strips, fat quarters). One visit they were full price and the next visit, they were clearing them out. I got some good bargains which I haven't had a chance to use due to my surgery but I thought it was really weird.

Sew and Sew 07-29-2011 07:36 AM

Well this topic has been of much interests to those that have shopped at Walmart for fabric, lost it, and Walmart lost their patronage. I have talked with supervisers at out local small rural town Walmart, their suggestion is to call
1-800-WALMART.......go to customer service.....and tell them your wishes and why. Make sure you have your store number when you call. I called my local wm first and got it. My store told me it is important to keep calling the main number, and to ask for return of bolt fabric not cut. Hope this will benefit some of us. Good luck to us all.........

Nanjun 07-29-2011 08:36 AM

I think it is a good thing that Walmarts are getting back into fabrics. I have a Walmart i/2 mile from me and it is new and never had fabric. Our other Walmart is at least 5 miles from me and had a very good fabric dept. I think
it would be benificial to me to drive the 5 miles to get a bargain.

latebloomerar 07-29-2011 08:49 AM

I think I would email them and see how quick the bell gets put back. I emailed Hancocks about a problem that I had had and the general manager called me, so they do listen and I'll bet Walmart will too.

Happy Quilting!

Because of our weak dollar compared to other countries and the fact that in the global market we are no longer the biggest trading partner, prices of cotton are expected to double this year. I've already seen significant increases at my JoAnns in Florida and Mary Jo's Fabric shop in North Carolina, two of my favorite fabric & notion stores. The cost of many things has gone up significantly so manufacturers are responding by having to raise prices or make the fabric less robust. Fact of our times. My local WalMart has fabric now. A welcome return!

MissGrammy 07-29-2011 09:50 AM

The WM in Pineville LA isgetting bolt fabric back, too. I was there 2 days ago and got soooooo excited. Also, if you're in this area, they've marked their kits (ie soft baby book panels, aprons, doll clothes, etc) to 75% off just to make more room for fabric.

teacherbailey 07-29-2011 10:00 AM

My local WalMart took out the fabric section when it remodeled from a regular store to a Super Center. Wonder what all of this means for me?????

SugarCookie 07-29-2011 10:14 AM

Bah, humbug! The fabrics were taken away in all the Walmarts in our area! We all were so mad! They are the only fabric store for miles around. And their prices were reasonable.
I hope the lady was right and we get our sewing departments back! Thanks for your news!

I called WalMart at least once each week, e-mailed more times than I can count, along with thousands of the rest of you. I also talked with our local managers several times.

But what made the difference was that WalMart was losing market share to a number of other discounters. They had removed about 8,000 items from their stores in addition to the fabric as they tried to attract a more upscale clientele.

Does anyone remember when J.C. Penney went the same direction several years ago and almost went under?

I see local physicians and lawyers, college professors and other professionals shopping in our WalMart, not to mention teachers who are the best educated and most underpaid "other" professionals. I guess there just weren't enough billionaires to go around in the attempt to attract upscale cusotmers because WalMart is putting the 8,000 items back, along with the fabric. You can follow the saga in trade journals.

Fabric is back in WalMart in Sherman, Texas, and I have already bought more than my share. I have seen other people notice the fabric is back and get that incredulous, happy look people get when something unexpectedly good happens. The clerks tell me that they are staying busy relearning the art of cutting fabric as well as restocking the notions.

The profit motive is wonderful when it works! froggyintexas

Mariposa 07-29-2011 10:48 AM

Our new small super center (new last fall) is now bringing in fabrics by the bolt. Some fabrics on racks, but not for sale yet. No prices, no cutting table yet, etc. Have seen this in another WM also. :)

ka9sdn 07-29-2011 10:55 AM

Believe it or not ours is just now taking it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, I have children in baton rouge, go occasionally, you should check out the Wal-mart in Prairieville, only about 20 minutes down airline hwy, they have some great fabs on clearance, like 1.00 a yard and stuff! like David textiles-good fabric!

Jackie R 07-29-2011 12:10 PM

The Walmart store near me in Maplewood, MO put their fabric on bolts back into that store along with some fat qtrs, charm packs, etc and sewing supplies. The fabric dept isn't as big as it previously was but I managed to find a few fabrics anyway - never fails!

niizh 07-29-2011 01:40 PM

Ask manager in walmart close to me if they would get fabric department back. He said they had ask to have it returned, no answer to date. Unless things have changed, walmart has a minor reset of the store around Sept and a major reset around February. We still have a chance!

quiltymom 07-29-2011 02:17 PM

Yep!!!Here in Battle Creek Michigan were alresdy getting ours back guess it does work to complain!!!!!!

Momo 07-29-2011 02:58 PM

DD#1 called me just this afternoon with good news for the Columbus GA and Phenix City,AL area! Wal-Mart on Buena Vista Road has fabric again. That's the only one in our area that isn't a Super store. I can hardly wait to go check it out. She said it's a full source fabric shop again.

kydeb 07-29-2011 07:08 PM

Know what you mean about not being able to find someone to cut it! I was there one time and some other customers and I waited, paged, waited, paged, and waited some more. Finally, I took a look at their little scanner - no code needed to scan the fabric so I cut mine - along with a couple of other customers - and we were on our way.......still no one in sight to cut fabric!!

They have started bringing back bolts in my Walmart, but I am on a fabric diet!

That works and so does picking up the paging phone and calling for help. I've done that several times and suddenly all kinds of people diverge on me! froggyfowlerintexas

PamS 07-29-2011 07:56 PM

The Aurora,CO W-mart (close to Aurora Mall) is remodeling AND getting a larger fabric dept: lots more bolts, batting, notions, etc AND AND AND it's closer to the front of the store!! How nice of them to make it more convenient and faster for me to spend my money (-;

Heck, I don't use MY cell phone to call for someone to come cut my fabric, I use THEIR phone that's hanging on a post by the cutting table. Dial 0 and "POLITELY" ask for help in the fabric dept. Now you can take my "politely" any way you want.

According to one girl in the WM in Fremont, MI, they're getting more fabric, but no more room. Prices are higher. :::sigh:::

I have 3 Walmarts within 20 minutes of me. 2 of the stores in Ft. Myers removed there fabric , but the 1 in Lehigh never removed theirs, but the dept. moved and is smaller. I do not like pre cut fabric and would never buy it

sammy89 07-30-2011 03:06 PM

all our walmarts here have there fabrics back.Thank you

tigger5464 07-30-2011 03:24 PM

The Walmart in Muscatine Ia was getting theirs back the last time I was in there. It wasn't as large as it used to be but, they will have it by the bolt. Now, Tipton needs to get theirs back in and we will be set. LOL I doubt that this will happen but I can hope. ;)

JanetLovesSewing 07-31-2011 11:14 AM

I sent WalMart a thank you email. I wanted them to hear something positive after my "negative" email about discountinuing fabric departments.

jquilt214 07-31-2011 12:19 PM

I live about 1 mile from one Walmart and about 4 miles from another. The one closest I will not set foot in because it is taking a real chance even parking in the lot. The crime is terrible. This store is where they moved all the fabric to from the One 4 miles away. I inquires at the Derby store and was told I'd have to go to the crime ridden store for fabric. They told me we would have to call the 800 number and send e-mails to get it returned to Derby. I guess we will have to flood their phones and e-mails.

The broadcloth they had at 1.97 is $3 and too thin to use as quilt backing. I do look there for my backing but with the LSQ selling 108" wide for $12.99 that usually comes out cheaper. However I will admit I do look everytime I am there. I was glad to see warm and natural batting is half the price per yard of Joann's. Our Joann's here has surpassed the LQS price on a lot of things so I avoid them plus they are a 30-40 minute drive for me. The batiks last week were $12.99 a yard at Joann's and $9.99 & 10.99 at LQS.

If you're unhappy with their prices, check out some of the online fabric stores. They always have great sales and selctions and most have free shipping over a certain amount (usually $25, 30, 50). Thousands of Bolts, Fabric.com, Connecting Threads, etc.
