I went to yet another WalMart in Baton Rouge and a nice lady was doing something in the crafts department. I asked her if this WalMart was going to get bolt fabric back and she said yes indeed. She said "you and your friends must have been calling and writing. I told everyone to call and write. "They" told us no one was buying fabric, and I told them that isn't the case". She was so nice and said that all the WalMarts would be getting fabric back. Not just in Baton Rouge. I'm not sure if that is really the case, but, at least that one in Baton Rouge (behind Cortana Mall) will be. She said she couldn't tell me when, but would be sooner than I think. I also said I've heard that when fabric comes back, there aren't people who know how to cut it. She said, well, I know how to cut and so do the other ladies who work here. She said she would look forward to cutting my fabric. Such a nice experience. I'll check back there to see when it happens. :D

Talked to the lady in my WalMart that used to work in fabrics when we had some. She told me ours would get it back after they remodeled the store next year.

tealady 07-28-2011 12:20 PM

I am so glad! The Cortana WM had the best fabric (back when).

gale 07-28-2011 12:20 PM

Ours is a brand new store (opened last October). I wonder if it will be getting fabric in again. The old store had it but got rid of it a while before they closed.

Jammin' Jane 07-28-2011 12:23 PM

The precuts have been on sale now for several weeks. Hopefully, I'll be seeing some bolts soon.

valsma 07-28-2011 12:24 PM

I really think WalMart discoverd that there was still a demographic out there who buys fabric and enjoys saving money to. I think the fabric depts. will come into each of the WalMarts as they do updating and remodels on stores. That is how it happend here. I am proud to say since sending email that there was never anyone around the craft/fabric dept. to cut the fabric, you can always find someone close by now. Just one or two ailse away from the cutting area. You will enjoy the new dept. when it gets there.

gale 07-28-2011 12:27 PM

Out here the walmart would really benefit from it. Joann's just closed and now people have to drive an hour for any fabric. Bad enough for us adults but for school and 4H projects it might be a hardship for some parents to drive so far.

Zhillslady 07-28-2011 12:44 PM

The 2 Wal-Marts closest to me have never discontinued their fabric but this year both have gotten slightly smaller. The fabrics that were $3.50 & 3.97 are mostly $5.95+ now. The broadcloth they had at 1.97 is $3 and too thin to use as quilt backing. I do look there for my backing but with the LSQ selling 108" wide for $12.99 that usually comes out cheaper. However I will admit I do look everytime I am there. I was glad to see warm and natural batting is half the price per yard of Joann's. Our Joann's here has surpassed the LQS price on a lot of things so I avoid them plus they are a 30-40 minute drive for me. The batiks last week were $12.99 a yard at Joann's and $9.99 & 10.99 at LQS.

blueangel 07-28-2011 01:32 PM

Good for you

llcathey 07-28-2011 02:30 PM

Joann's I think are out pricing themselves, there not a quilt store and if Im going to pay the big bucks Im going to get good fabric plus support the quilt store

Stitchnripper 07-28-2011 02:44 PM

Yes, it's all a matter of personal preference and what we want our quilts to be. Sometimes I use quilt store quality and sometimes when I'm just fooling around for myself, it doesn't matter what I use. And some of the odd scraps I've found in flea markets turned into quilts I really like. It's fun to have options!!

Ditto...I was first told end of July but this wk when I asked they said when we make the store bigger...BOO HISS...I need fabric now.

jljack 07-28-2011 03:13 PM

We heard the same in CA. All the WalMarts will get bolts of fabric back....most likely as they are remodeled or the SuperCenters are built.

Joeysnana 07-28-2011 03:22 PM

Our WM also got lots of bolts of fabric back, but the last 3 times I went to check it out, no one was around to cut it for me. They even removed the bell that you could ring to summon assistance. I give up!

AlwaysQuilting 07-28-2011 03:23 PM

I just visited one of the 3 WalMarts near me and they were in the process of getting the fabric out on the floor. Hooray! I hope the other 2 stores get it soon also.

EagarBeez 07-28-2011 03:39 PM

Last time I was to our only Walmart within an hour drive, the fabric dept (an aisle) moved to the far corner of the store. It was always in the back of the store, only much bigger. I did not see much change since last time I visited. Still one aisle. Don't frequent there much, with gas prices. Just not worth a trip. I get what I need online or wait till we travel. I do suppose one day we may get a larger fabric dept

ManiacQuilter2 07-28-2011 03:47 PM

The Walmart super store in Temecula CA is NOW unloading the fabric. Two stores in Corona CA were remodeled but no sign of fabric is coming back. YES, the prices at JAF have skyrocketed along with the price of cotton. Now that the prices have declined, I doubt if the price of yardage will come down. Just like gasoline.

jamie Watson 07-29-2011 02:58 AM

our walmart got their fabric back.A few days ago they were putting it on the shelves.I think the prices run from 4.95 up.They dont carry as much as they use to but at least we do have a choice now.

What does the LQS stand for? Thanks Jan

After Walmart took out fabric, I e-mail them a couple months later. I told them thank you for taking it out. I now didn't make a trip to Walmart each week. I didn't buy things in other departments because I saw them and they were cute. I also said I now had to go to Madison to get my fabric at JoAnns and stopped at Target for my other things since I was there.

They have people who do nothing but think of ways to get you to shop at Walmart, just to get you in the door. So I don't think they were happy to have created a "Target" customer.

Eloise 07-29-2011 03:34 AM

I can't wait for this to become true in Bellefontaine OH! WOW! Currently we have "no where" to buy fabric in this area! Drive to Columbus, Lima, Piqua and etc. but having fabric back in our Wal-Mart would be W O N D E R F U L!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

smagruder 07-29-2011 03:40 AM

Talked to the one store here where they had lots of fabrics. Called and was told they were remodeling AGAIN around the end of August but fabrics are on their way back! Will wait to see. There is another store close by that has fabric but not a lot of it. Happy Happy Happy

laurafet 07-29-2011 03:42 AM

One of the WalMarts in east Raleigh told me on Tuesday of this week-they have the fabric in the back of the store, but are trying to figure out where to put it on the floor. Get that fabric out here where we can see and buy it!!!

vivoaks 07-29-2011 03:59 AM

I have 2 Wal-Marts within 15 minutes of my house, and so far one has gotten their fabric back, and the other hasn't. Lucky for me, the one that has it already is the one I pass on my way home from work!

smagruder 07-29-2011 04:04 AM

Oh, goodie, looks like you will be late getting home from work Vivoaks! LOL

meanmom 07-29-2011 04:08 AM

My Wal Mart used to have fabric. Most of it was decent quality. One reason I didn't buy it more often was because I could never find anyone to cut it. I would have to wander around until I found someone. They would often promise to send the fabric person over who would never show up. I often threatened to cut my own. Mine has fabric now I haven't bought any yet as I am trying to stop buying fabric. I have way too much.

I hope this is true. The last time I was in the only remaining WalMart with fabric in a 50-mile radius from my home, they said they would be eliminating their fabric department during the next remodel. I was there in May. Hopefully, they have changed their tune and I'll be seeing fabric again in the other stores in my area.

LindaJ 07-29-2011 04:36 AM

Ours is coming back. (southwestern Pa.)

mona202 07-29-2011 04:40 AM

Ours here in London, Ohio keeps sand the dept keeps getting smaller and smaller. Sad face shrinking in bolts and the dept is hardly but a few tables.

twinkie 07-29-2011 04:41 AM

When I went to the home office in June for the shareholders meeting, the marketing manager told the group that full bolt fabric would return to 700 stores by September of this year.

mona202 07-29-2011 04:53 AM

Woohoo

bonnyh 07-29-2011 04:59 AM

Went to a local (well kinda local) WalMart in Colville, WA. They stopped carrying yarn. The craft section gets smaller every time I go. I'm fed up with them. Looks like ordering on line for me.

hoppa 07-29-2011 05:22 AM

Glad youare getting fabric back. Noticed they are starting to remodel ours so maybe ours is coming soon.

collady 07-29-2011 05:29 AM

I am still waiting. The pre-cuts are almost all gone. It is just a matter of time here.
