Oh My! Sure hope our Walmart follows suit! I have missed that department sooooooo much!

dotlette 07-06-2011 07:21 AM

Our walmart is having a sale on precuts and bringing back the bolt fabics within the next 2 months I am so happy.

azam 07-06-2011 07:51 AM

Oh, Good for you!!!! Still waiting to see what they do at our Walmarts.

Quiltbeagle 07-06-2011 09:00 AM

I'm happy for you but a bit jealous. I called the manager of the closest WM and they're not going to put fabrics back in. They'd rather keep the 6 aisles of car stuff.

Yup, I'm afraid that's what is going to happen at our Walmart, too.

our local wm has reduced their precut fabric and their fat quarters, I hope that is a indication bolts are coming.

Our WalMarts prices in their new fabric dept. seems to be running a from low approx. $3 a yd. to $11 yd for good quality cotton quilt fabric. I noticed today that most of the quilting which appears to be part of a collection were about $8.97 yd. I have to say though the quality if better. They also have some decent cotton prints around $5.44 a yard.

They also had the jelly rolls on sell from $10. 97 for $7 but selection wasn't good. Fat quarters were .75 each.

Nope. She's my Nosey Girl and has to put her stamp of approval on all quilts. That particular quilt went to my GD.

2piecemaker 07-06-2011 12:34 PM

The Walmart in Gilmer will be restoring the fabric. I spoke to one their employees and he said Walmart realized they made a very big mistake taking out the fabric. Sales plummeted because us quilter were not shopping for anything in their stores.

Rachel111940 07-06-2011 01:12 PM

I have 4 wallmarts, they all are without fabrics but lots of groceries. I wish at least one would bring the fabrics back. I loved the VIP the most.

lue 07-06-2011 01:13 PM

Is the quality as good as LQS or is it more Joanne's quality?

dsch 07-06-2011 01:19 PM

I am soooooooooooooooooo jealous! Good for you tho! Enjoy !

I don't know if the Walmart here is bringing back fabric but so far it doesn't look like it. I check every once in a while. I did see 3 -5yrd bolts for $5 last time I was there. Not at all good quality. And since I am just getting what I Need now and not building a stash I wouldn't have gotten it anyway.

sassy granny 07-06-2011 01:38 PM

Just went to my Wal Maart today and the new fabrics are higher than ther ever were. They still have some for around $3.00 a yard but a lot of the new pieces were $4.94 and $5.44 a yard. You have to look close at it too, some is not a good quality. I was dissappointed. They did have their sewing machines marked down. Their Brother 5500
( I think that was the model number )was marked down from$144.00 to$89/00, I would buy that if I knew it was a good machine. I asked the clerk if that was just a sale or if they were getting rid of them. She didn't know for sure but said she thought that they were getting ready to restock with new models. Might be better off to wait for something better. I have a good New Home machine in my sewing building in back of the house but I need another one
to keep in the house so I can sew both places. I could get more sewing done that way.

It's taking forever to get all the fabric on the shelves in Sherman, Texas, because the management has the woman who is charge of fabrics working in about 10 other places at once. I guess it takes a long time to add back even a fraction of the 8,000 items they took off the shelves two years ago. However, some fabric is in the bins. The Cranston Mills (VIP) is $5.47 a yard. One lovely doublefaced prequilted piece is $12.95. I didn't look at the prices for the fleece. I've already bought two yards of a VIP TOT to make binding for some baby quilt tops and have my eye on some really cute prints. froggyintexas

I haven't found that LQS fabric is worth the difference in price. I think the hand on some of the better known LQS fabrics is no better than what you will find at WalMart or JoAnn's. And for the difference in price, I want something that feels really, really much better than what I can find at
WalMart, JoAnn's or HobbyLobby. froggyintexas

EagarBeez 07-06-2011 02:22 PM

that's what our Walmart looked like at one time. When they re did it, it was condensed to an aisle with a cutting table. Last time I was in the store, I did not notice any changes to the fabric dept. My DH noticed they are bringing some things back. Planning a day up where Walmart is and will see if there are any changes

twixbar 07-06-2011 02:33 PM

Lucky you, I called one in my area last night, but no fabric. :-(

Stitcherbee09 07-06-2011 02:36 PM

I do wonder about the quality, I never bought much there at all, I still prefer a good sale at the lqs.
although I am very happy to have it back too! :D

scjoan 07-06-2011 05:26 PM

We have 3 Walmarts within 20 minutes, only the one lost the fabric and it had the racks being put in last night, assume the fabric will show there again soon. (Of course this is the one within 5 minutes of me)

G'ma Kay 07-06-2011 05:53 PM

What's the address of the Blue Springs WM? I'll be going through there in a couple of weeks.

quiltjoey 07-06-2011 06:03 PM

One of the biggest differences I've found in WM and the LQ shops is price. I rarely ever go into one of our LQS because of the "snotty" attitudes there...I have bought lots of material at one local LQS and WM and Mary Jo's in Gastonia, and Hancocks. We don't have JoAnns or Hobby Lobby here locally.

MimiLinda 07-06-2011 06:08 PM

So glad to hear that. Hope we get ours back. When you are there admiring their fabric, think of us who are still out. :D

PrettyCurious 07-06-2011 06:57 PM

My Brain is numb now

I just came back from Walmart, and now I know why I don't go there. I got some extra money this week, cuz we're short man power at the assylum, and I got that fabric itch. There's a Walmart about a mile away from the Joanns I conveiniently plannned on going to, so I decided to go there first to see if they had fabric.
The short answer is yes.
The long answer is good luck getting it.
All total, I got 28 yards of fabric, and 2 yards of Pellon [gonna try this applique thing] that I cut myself for $69 and trust me, NONE of those yards were short.

sylviak 07-06-2011 07:06 PM

I was in the Sherman, TX Walmart this morning and I noticed they were beginning to fill their fabric shelves! Glad to see it coming back! The highest I saw was $5.44/yd.

sew1 07-06-2011 07:44 PM

Asked our local WM manager and he said he hadn't been notified of them getting it back. BOO HOO

huntannette 07-06-2011 07:58 PM

ohhhh lucky you!!!

Our Walmart hasn't restored their fabrics either. Perhaps I should print the pictures of these that have and give the pictures to our manager. Think that would help us way out here in West Texas about 100 miles from ANY fabric store? Then only 1 Walmart, 1 Hobby Lobby and 1 quilt shop, 20 miles more and 1 Hancock's. Would love to just frequent the LQS, but after that distance, I generally go to HL or WM, after paying $4.00 a gal for gas, have to save money where I can. We have so much oil & gas down here and our prices are some of the highest in the U.S.

Which WalMart????

the one in Griffin Ga has theirs back was there monday

charlotte37830 07-07-2011 06:54 AM

I was at a local Wal-Mart over the weekend and they too were clearencing out the pre-cuts and had started putting in the bolts again. That makes 3 fairly close. Now, if only the one closest to my home would get it back, I would be set. (The worker in the crafts dept. said she is hoping we will get fabric back there, but she don't think we will because the manager is against it).
