If anyone here lives near the new Walmart in Elizabethton, TN, GO THERE!!! They have a long, double sided aisle in the fabric dept with nice fabrics at only $2.00 per yard! I bought some very pretty winter background fabric and it was 100% cotton.

The fabric dept. is not big, but they did have a nice selection of fabrics at decent prices.

blueangel 07-05-2011 03:28 PM

Good for you

texpat45 07-05-2011 03:34 PM

I'm so jealous!!! My Walmart hasn't restored their fabric dept. yet...

sewmuchmore 07-05-2011 03:40 PM

I check out at my WM and cotton was $4.97 a yd. Some was ok but others were very nice. :P

nyelphaba 07-05-2011 03:49 PM

There is nothing happening, fabric-wise, at our Walmart.

If you will look close at the picture you can see some of the prices, seen on for $2.94 yd

alissa 07-05-2011 03:57 PM

well our WM just clearnced all the per cut fabrics and I got alot of fabric $800.00 worth for 194.00.I got jelly rolls for 2.20 a roll, FQ .30, 2yd cuts 1.90, 1 yd for 1.20, charm packs for 2.20,quilt kits that where $23 for 5.00, $18 quilt kits for 4.90 my youngest daughter was with me and she said mom everyone is looking at you. Our buggy was full. they said that they where going to put the fabric dept. back in by sept. yea

quilter in the making 07-05-2011 04:06 PM

So jealous. My local WM never even did stock the precuts and I see no movement in getting fabric back. Without Walmart carrying fabric, it's a trip of over half an hour just to get the basics.

sunni 07-05-2011 04:19 PM

I was in Walmart today too and they were getting it all ready :) I could see it but couldn't get close enough to touch LOL They had it all roped off while setting up. I estimate a week or two at the most and it will be all ready for me.

Woo Hoo!!!
I have found the Walmart fabric prices to vary from location to location... Ours is usally a bit higher than other locations... but it is still a GREAT price :D:D:D

Ann L 07-05-2011 05:11 PM

Good for you. I just bought some FQ and precut fabric on sale at WM. Maybe they are getting ready to make room for the renovations? We can hope can't we?

BobbiSue2009 07-05-2011 05:55 PM

Do you know if they sell online? Thanks.

My son's MIL called to tell me that the Wal-Mart near her in Knoxville, TN now has bolt fabric again. I am jealous. Ours doesn't yet. I have infected her with the quilting bug. It is nice to share another interest with her. (More than our children.) She is making baby quilts for people in her church right now.
I think she is practicing in the hopes that we will share grandchildren in the near future.

KyKat 07-05-2011 06:12 PM

Ours has always had fabric and quilting stuff and today I was there for a new cutting mat and the clerk was putting up boxes of new stuff that didn't even have prices on it yet. They don't have quilting stencils, though. I have to go to Hobby Lobby for those or a specialty quilting shop, and they are usually expensive there, so I order those online.

Krystyna 07-06-2011 02:58 AM

Yours looks terrific! I went to ours yesterday. The prices have gone up up up. All the wonderful bargain bolts -$2.50-3.50 a yard - were gone. Someone cut them up into messy remnant lumps and crammed them into drawers. Most didn't even have prices. I did need some fabric, but no one was around. This used to be the case months ago, but it had improved. So ... I did what I did in the past - and what workers I pulled off the floor from other departments also did in the past. I measured my own fabric, took stickers out of the drawer and marked how many yards at the price per yard. I sure hope ours gets its act together.

oldcottontop 07-06-2011 03:00 AM

I have two WM in my are. The one that is farthest away from me never did get rid of fabric. The one closest to me did and they are putting it back in. Went by there yesterday and they were putting stuff on the shelves. She said to give them a week or so and they would be up and running. The one that did get rid of their fabrics is in the process of remodeling and they have brought in a smaller cutting table. That just saves more room for fabrics since the table they had before, half of it was used for misc stuff.

quiltymom 07-06-2011 03:11 AM

Here in Battle Creek our Walmart is putting theirs up!!!!!

PrettyCurious 07-06-2011 03:16 AM

Really?
I thought I heard walmart was discontinuing fabric at all their stores? I don't shop there now, but I might be tempted if they had fabric . . .

I don't know, Walmart lost my business when they pulled the fabric and craft department. Not sure if they will get this customer back. The gals at Hancock's is pretty good to me!
What will this do to our lqs's I wondered? Gee, wish I could support them all.

Bliss 07-06-2011 03:52 AM

Our WalMart has precuts and they are scanning at 1/2 price
I'm watching closely as they come down
I've washed and folded the 100% cotton and it came out fine

Vat 07-06-2011 03:54 AM

You need to be very careful about buying fabric at Walmart. Sometimes the quality/durability is not as good as quilt shop fabric (and even that varies from shop to shop, sometimes). After you put all the work into a project you want it to last for a very long time. A little more money at times is a good thing.

dphelps 07-06-2011 04:00 AM

At least they are getting there. All my WM has is precuts so far. I am looking forward to back on the bolt again.

What location in NC are you located? I would like to know if they are planning on bringing anything back to Winston Salem

MrsH2008 07-06-2011 05:31 AM

I have never really quilted, but our Walmart clearanced out the pre-cuts and I am finally giving it a try. I bought jelly rolls, quilt kits, FQs,and fabric. Now I can start a quilt top and not worry wasting fabric. I have already chosen my pattern. I'm so excited!
