I have the True Cut sharpener. I really need to get my pile of bladses out and put it to the test. I have only used it once and was happy. Maybe, today, since we are talking about it. I will buy Olfa blades vs. Harbor Freight. I find staying with the suggested brand vs. a no-name gets me the results I want. Even in food items. The quality is just better. I will "try" some things once but with rotary blades, I am not going to take the chance.

I apologize if this thread seems repetitive, but I've been searching this forum for blade sharpening information. Many members report success with their blade sharpeners but don't give enough detail. Even more report disappointment.
I have a USA sharpener that DH and I have been experimenting with. He has tried to sharpen dull blades, beginning with the coarse stone and finishing with the fine stone. He also tried to sharpen some blades that were used but not very dull yet, hoping it would revitalize them. The result in both cases was that the blades were unusable (even the ones that started out relatively sharp). I'm hoping that members will give details of their blade sharpening success. Please detail the sharpener you are using, how soon you sharpen your blade and the exact process (fine/coarse stones, etc). I figure we are doing something terribly wrong to have a blade sharpener actually dull a previously relatively sharp blade. Thanks! |
I buy the ones from harbor freight. I use them all the time and have been for years. I don't have a problem with the. but they are cheap enough 2 for 2.50. and like I said if there's a problem, bring them back. in my small mind I would think if they are good enough and sharp enough to cut through the fibers and backing on a carpet, then they should be able to cut my thin cotton fabric. but I guess until you have a problem they are fine.
