What a terrific idea.

I made many last year for Christmas. Everyone at first was what is this? A few weeks later everyone called me wanting more. You don't need to buy a pattern.
Belmer posted a great tutorial on this board how to make them. http://www.quiltingboard.com/tutoria...s-t144848.html Oh, I sold them last fall at a craft sale for $15 for two. I sold 15 sets. I used all quilt shop fabric cotton, cotton thread, and cotton batting with no scrim. I used a decorative stitch around each edge of the bowl. The bowls are not for cooking, only for heating a bowl of food. They make great lid potholders too. |
BellaBoo is right -- for the microwave just be careful of the fabric, thread (no metalic or poly for sure -- I don't know about rayon) and remember the scrim on batting is a poly blend.

I made six of these. Don't put ours in the microwave, just place the hot bowl inside them. We can't live without them. Also use them for holding cold bowls of icecream. Use them daily!
|
Forgot--also put handful of chips in one and put in microwave to heat chips up.
|
How much did you sell these for? Thanks!

Check the tutorial section of this board for free directions! I made a stack of them and they sold like hot cakes at the Christmas Bazaar!

At a craft show I saw what looks like a bowl shaped pot holder for the microwave. You set your bowl in the potholder before you put it in the microwave. When the food is hot you just take the bowl shaped pot holder and the bowl out. you can use it to pass around the table without worrying that the bowl will slip off the flat pot holder.

And they are washable for when my soup overflows in the microwave! I will need many of these!
