good info. Thanks for sharing. So the thread can wrap itself over and over on a part of my machine it is NOT supposed to be, but break at a crucial time when it is where it IS supposed to be?! Well, glory me! Now I have to pay attention to thread. Lord knows what that will do to my 1/4" seams I've been concentrating on!

Thanks for the warning! I've had some strange things get incorporated with my sewing from time to time. I could see how this could happen fairly easily.

Sorry to hear about your mishap- I dont keep cones on my table, I dont like to use a cone on my brother, theres too much drag- so I use gutterman or coats n clarks star thread, which fit on the machine, if its a cone, it goes in a drawer, and most of the time, it has a plastic sleeve.

WOW thanks for pointing that out. I just got a new machine and if I reck another machine my hubby said I am done sewing and will be doing hand work!

The Brother 1500 is so easy to take the housing off and see everything inside. I do not take the handwheel part off. It's possible but aggravating to get back on in the right spot. I can see everything in that area when the housing is off without taking the turning part off. I don't recall plastic moving parts in the machine. I'll have to take notice the next cleaning I do for it.

I had this happen to me many years ago with my Bernina, only the thread got into the motor and wrapped around motor shaft, it was still under warranty as it was brand new. I learned my lesson about using cone threads.

As I sew the thread was winding off and wraping around the drive shaft. It cracked the plastic hand wheel cover. My dealer has told me that the part can't be replaced unless the whole drive shaft is replaced. So if you use cones be sure not to leave one on the sewing table. Lucky for me the Brother is still working and the thread didn't get into the machine.
