Warning About Elmer's Glue

Just a heads up for all of you that use Elmer's School Glue. I just noticed this when I went to buy more glue. Elmer's has a new glue called Elmer's Glue-All. It's in the same bottle as the school glue and is also white. The only difference I saw was the label. I don't think Glue-All is washable. It was right next to the school glue and would be easy to pick up the wrong one if you didn't look at the label. We spend too much time and money on our quilts to ruin one with the wrong glue.

Thanks for the heads up.

The Glue All has been around a long time, maybe even longer than the washable school glue. Just do pay attention to which one you are getting as it is more permanent.

duckydo 06-29-2013 05:40 AM

Thanks for sharing that with us

tessagin 06-29-2013 05:43 AM

Thanks. It is easy to pick up the wrong bottle. When I do that, I send it to the grands or donate it for School Supplies for Kids through our community.

debbieumphress 06-29-2013 06:20 AM

Just to be sure I tend to buy the Elmer's craft glue sticks for things I paste for stitching....
Thanks for the heads up.

mighty 06-29-2013 06:29 AM

I have notice that, I always make sure I purchase the washable.

Scissor Queen 06-29-2013 07:28 AM

It always pays to read the label on anything you buy. I'm always amazed at how many people just blindly grab stuff off the shelf and then complain when they get the wrong thing.

Mariposa 06-29-2013 07:43 AM

Thanks for the heads up! :)

Thanks for the heads up! I probably wouldn't have thought much about it!

Definitely look for the word "WASHABLE" in big letters. The bottles are very similar, and have been for as long as I can remember. I saw a clear kind of glue that also said WASHABLE. I brought back about 4 bottles of the washable stuff to try it.

Thanks so much for sharing......don't think I would have looked I just pick up the bottle! :)

All my Elmer's Washable School glue has a black chalk board label on the front of the bottle. The Glue All does not.

KwiltyKahy 06-29-2013 02:05 PM

Thanks for the heads up

I agree. It is very easy to pick up the wrong kind of something when careless people just stick it anywhere handy.

jemma 06-29-2013 07:46 PM

thank you so easy to pick up the wrong one

MacThayer 06-29-2013 07:54 PM

Thanks! I have no children at home and am not familiar with the different types of "school glue". You've given me a great "heads up" and may have prevented a wrong buy on my part! It's so great to get tips like this on this Board!

Thanks, will pay more attention next time I buy glue.

twinkie 06-30-2013 03:11 AM

Thanks for letting us know.

I think that Glue-All version also comes in glue sticks and I know it comes in the glue pens because I bought one awhile back - don't worry; I knew what it was. I wanted it for something else.

I bought a bottle of Glue-All once because it came in a bigger size than the School Glue. I wrote to the manufacturer and asked them if it was washable. They said that it is. I ended up returning it anyway because I just wasn't sure.

I may have to do an experiment to see if there is any difference in them.

elmer's glue-all has been around since hector was a pup. i was blindsided the first time i grabbed the "wrong" bottle because it was the "school glue", and since it was washable, it would not do the job i'd intended it to do. i ended up giving it to one of the kids for their desk at school, and having to make another trip. of course, that was many, many years ago, before i'd learned the joys of quilting! (and now these kids have all turned into adults with kid of their own...)

I wonder if the "perm" stuff would work better than Fabric-Tac? I am actually looking for a glue that will hold through washing. Facric-tac is so hard to work with.

THANKS!! Margaret, I use Elmer's on my bindings and had planned to use it on one of my quilts I am ready to sandwich, (haven't done this before), but it seems that a lot do and why not try. I would need to purchase more, as I am about out , I will definitely be on the lookout for this.
Sometimes I do get the wrong things, especially when I am in a hurry if items are out of place and in the wrong section of the shelf, and thinking I'm picking up what I want.

Sue Kitten 06-30-2013 10:22 AM

I have noticed the " Glue All" bottles too. I had a very Large bottle of the non washable glue in my cupboard that I gave away to the neighbor kids to use so I would not accidentally use it myself on one of my quilts.

Emma S 06-30-2013 10:44 AM

I just remembered. Elmers glue is what my dad used for his woodworking projects, so yes at least some of it is forever.

Thanks for sharing. I picked up the school glue today at WalMart and did notice the other next to it. My brain told me to watch which one I bought!! I didn't know the difference was washing it out.

madamepurl 07-01-2013 09:01 PM

I saw that...my Wally World had 3 different Elmer's. I haven't tried it, but great post to watch which one you buy.
