OUCH!

I did that a month ago. I was stippling a small square and got my finger too close. Luckily, it only caught the side and didnt go through the nail. Virtually no blood but I had to go upstairs and lay down since I got a bit woozy. I am such a wimp when it comes to pain!

A coworker of mine was embroidering on her new machine and got her finger too close and the needle went all the way through her finger and broke off. Her DH had to take her to the ER and she had to have surgery to have it removed cause it went through the bone and they couldn't get it out any other way. So we all need to be very careful about keeping our fingers from getting to close to those needles.

I haven't tangled with a machine needle (yet), but have sat down on a crochet hook and also got a circle fish hook thru my thumb. Anyway, I feel your pain and glad it wasn't any worse!!!

I did almost the same thing, was pushing the material to close to the needle and it went right through my finger nail about 1/4" in. I don't think I got any blood on the fabric. But that quilt was litteraly made with blood sweat and tears. Finger is fine now, and I just bandaged it, and went on quilting.

I find it amazing that I have never cut myself with a rotary cutter or jabbed myself with a needle...all that quilting and sewing with no injury! :)
I can injure myself other ways, though...most recently it was by making barbeque sauce! I was opening cans of tomato sauce, dumping the contents into a pan and setting them aside. I reached for something and grazed my finger on one of the open lids...ouch! It wasn't that bad but it bled forever! So I can totally sympathize!

Be careful when you sew through your finger. There is oil on your needle and it can cause a very bad infection if it gets in your bloodstream. If you hit bone, definitely go to the ER for an xray. The tip of the needle although microscopic can be hazardous to your heath. Sorry for the grim warning but I have seen some horrific situations from this very thing over the years. Better to be safe than sorry.

Sorry but I have this vision of a gal in Jammies (with feet) and wild hair with 6 drop dead good looking men looking down at her wondering why the heck she sewed herself to the quilt she was working on...
Note to self... Always make sure when sewing to be made up to the nines. :lol:

Aaaaarrrrggggg! I cringe just thinking about it! And that is Murphy's Law that whatever accident happens, it always happens when I haven't had a shower and look like crap!
