Which way would you hang this...

Okay, this wall hanging still lacks borders, but I am wondering which side should be the top. What do you think? I thought I knew, as I was making it, but now I am not so sure. :)

Darker on the bottom. No, darker on the top......not sure....... This is a case where you do the way it pleases you.
darker on the bottom. Makes it look like mountians! Good job! Very pretty!!!
i like the second one... but have you tried to turn it 1/4 turn?
To me, the darker on the top is more visually appealing, but it is what YOU LIKE!!!!
Personally, I like the darker on the top. It's gorgeous both ways! You could put a hanging sleeve on both sides and turn it as the mood strikes you.
Darker on the top for me.
One way you get a city scape, the other.......a spruce forest.
the darker has the print that makes it look like snow on the mountains, so it goes on top.
I actually like the darker on the top more. DJ has the best Idea. If you look at both, the darker on top draws your eyes up. I love it.

I like the darker on the bottom. That makes it look like chocolate and caramel oozing down over something, and I loooove me some oozy chocolate and caramel! LOL
Guess I am of no help, I like it both ways.
Darker on the bottom but have you thought of hanging it "sideways?"
I like darker on top but guess it will just depend on your mood.
I'm with DJ, put sleeve on each end so you can switch it around depending on your mood. It looks good both ways I can't decide. :-) Beautiful work!

Dina You are becoming the bargello queen. (And my autocorrect wanted to make that bordello queen--yikes!) :) |
*** Pic #1 - (dark up). ***

The peaks should be up. That is what the Bargello needlepoint books display. Most Bargello designs originated back in the Elizabethan period as needlepoint designs

I didn't follow a pattern on this one, but I had thought the brown should go on the bottom, until I saw that it looked good upside down too. Still don't know which way I prefer. If I don't decide soon, I will really go with the two sleeves idea. I am going to follow a pattern with my next Bargello, as this "free lancing" stuff is harder than I thought! When I researched bargello, I found reference to two needlepoint chairs in a castle somewhere, Italy maybe? Pretty interesting, I thought. Dina |
I like the darker on the top. The darker looks farther back in space and the lighter looks like another layer of mountains or whatever in the front.
I like the 2nd picture.
If this is any help to you I like the bottom one the best. :)
That is an awesome piece of work. It's going to look great whichever way you hang it.
Personally, I like the one on the bottom better. It's more intriguing, visually, IMHO. I would hang it that way.
Darker on the bottom...

I am leaning towards the darker on the bottom. I am putting the borders on, and here is a picture of where I am now. I really only want to put one sleeve on it, so a decision will be coming soon. :) I hope....

You could hang it either way. I rather it the second way.
I like the idea of two hanging sleeves and changing it around-it would certainly create conversations. I have gone back and forth as I looked it after the comments of others. It is a lovely piece and there are reasons for an art point of view to do it either way. I vote for both!
Darker on the top for me, too.
I agree with the others that said Darker on the bottom.
Love it!

They are so beautiful - but I thought that if you saw them more like what the finished project would look like it might help, so I copied your pic, cleaned up the "tails" and have reposted them here both ways - personally, before the borders I preferred the darker colors up but now, with the borders, I really like the colors flowing down, like warm, sweet chocolate. Hope this helps.
Darker on top is my vote.
The first photo...it gives the impression of UP, the second down...its a feng shew (sp) thing.

I am still leaning towards the dark on bottom, but I honestly think it looks good both ways. With the dark on top, parts of the quilt sort of glow. But with the dark on bottom, it sort of looks more balanced to me, probably because of the borders I choose. :) Thanks for the extra effort you took for me. And thanks, everyone, for your help. Beautiful wall hanging. I like DJ's idea about putting a sleeve on both sides. Then you can hang either way.
This is really beautiful and of course either way is awesome. I think it is truly what you like best, but since you asked for input I am with those who like the dark on the top.
