I had lunch today with a woman who was talking about the Hobby Lobby store that will be opening in mid August. She goes to one in OK when she visits a sister and is excited that we will have one here. I have never heard of a Hobby Lobby store. It sounds a little like a JoAnns from her description. Does anyone frequent a Hobby Lobby store?

newquilter10 07-28-2010 07:26 PM

Love Hobby Lobby and am sure you will too.

Mary M 07-28-2010 07:30 PM

We have one here. They carry a lot of stuff for all types of hobbies not just sewing. They do have one section that is fabric and sewing notions. I have looked but not bought any fabric there. Somethings were higher priced than Jo ann's The biggest part of their store is home decorations which at regular price is over priced but they have a sale on that stuff every other week, at least. Ours is a good sized store don't know if they are all that way or not. Fun to look at their stuff.

paintstoregirl 07-28-2010 07:31 PM

You will enjoy shopping at Hobby Lobby.

sharon b 07-28-2010 07:35 PM

Mine is pretty big  And they have all kinds of stuff, lots of yarn , all kinds of fabric ( decorator, cotton, fleece) scrap booking , beads, home decorations ( inside and outside) candles , wedding stuff, silk flowers ... and so much more

NikkiLu 07-28-2010 07:36 PM

The Hobby Lobby's around here occupy the old WalMart store buildings - that is how big they are! They do have a very nice fabric department - look for the sales. But their biggest selection is their crafts - everything imaginable. Lots of home dec. items though - but huge selections of seasonal home dec. items - Christmas, Easter, etc. They are not open on Sunday's - religous reasons. Look for their coupons in the Sunday papers - somethings are always on sale.

HTH

Thanks for the info - I am looking forward to the opening of this store. And, the nice part - it is only a few blocks form the new JoAnns that opened in the mall!

Cheriefaye2008 07-28-2010 08:15 PM

I loved living near a Hobby Lobby. I wasn't much into sewing at the time, but I did enjoy looking through the fabric section. I used to crochet a lot and their selection of yarn and dollmaking supplies was really great. They do have a lot of really great sales.

moonrise 07-28-2010 08:48 PM

Make sure you look at their website before going. They often have a 25% off or 40% off coupon that you can print.

Print a copy for everyone who's going with you, as it's limited to one per person ... then have each person check out separately. ;)

Darlene 07-29-2010 03:41 AM

I love Hobby Lobby it has a lot of interesting stuff for everybody. They have a wonderful Christmas display when it's time.

MZStitch 07-29-2010 03:52 AM

I too love Hobby Lobby, and so do my girls. I find thier prices better than Michaels for craft items. While I normally buy my fabric from quilt shops I buy many notions here and they carry Warm & White/Natural battings. It's a very fun store to browse. Enjoy.

ginnie6 07-29-2010 04:13 AM

you can also print off a coupon for 40% off a single item almost every week. Some weeks its for a specific item....like unfinished wood frames or something but most of the time its for anything.

littlehud 07-29-2010 06:32 AM

I love walking around Hobby Lobby. My sis can get any yarn she wants there. They have some fabric and notions. Some of it is so cute. And you can find any craft item you might want.

I like Hobby Lobby a lot - you just have to remember to not go on a Sunday and always know what is or isn't on sale. They don't have scanners and enter everything in by hand and if the cashier doesn't know it's on sale, you could miss out on the savings... I have been lucky though and not have had a cashier miss out on a sale but I have heard others who have been less fortunate.

I do like my Hobby Lobby a lot :)

ClairVoyantQuilter 07-29-2010 07:00 AM

Waaayyyy WAAAAYYYYY better than JoAnn's IMHO :) They started in OK, corporate HQ in Oklahoma City. They're Christian owned and their employees are treated very well. They start at $10 an hour. Last Christmas, for a bonus, all employees received $100 for every year they've worked there. I know several who've been happily employed by Hobby Lobby for many years.

I've found their home decor fabrics selection to be fabulous. They carry Debbie Mumm Fabrics and I enjoy those. Their home decor section is wonderful and they very often have 50% off all wall decor or lamps, for example. I can always find things I love for my home. It truly is one of my favorite stores and I think you'll enjoy having one in your town :)

deranged_damsel 07-29-2010 07:06 AM

the home decor is AMAZING!!! they have MAN crafts also! all sorts of painting and art. minitures. model cars. coin collecting.
BEADS! scrapbook. LOTS of kids crafts! and did I mention the home decor???

they dont have as BIG of a fabric selection as Joann but they have current styles! and the prints are to die for!!!
they also have weekly coupons that they email to you and you print. be sure to sign up for these on the website.

:D HAVE FUN :D

Gramma B 07-29-2010 07:21 AM

We have a Hobby Lobby store in Bismarck. Love their fabric and craft areas! I buy lots of my material from there. :)

Some time you can get a coupon of the web for 40% one item only if it is not on sale. That is when I buy a big item. Like the selfhearling mat.

Lakeview Quilting 07-29-2010 08:30 AM

Love Hobby Lobby stores. You can sign up on line and receive their weekly coupons, usually 40% to 50% off..

ClairVoyantQuilter 07-29-2010 02:07 PM

Did I mention most of the Hobby Lobby's I've visited carry the Minky Chenille? There's a large Hobby Lobby warehouse (huge discounts) in Oklahoma City that I plan to visit next week while visiting my daughter and son in-law and am soooo hoping they have some there :)

GrammaNan 07-29-2010 05:23 PM

You cannot keep me out of ours! They are closed on Sundays so make sure you do your shopping on all of the other days of the week.

Lori S 07-29-2010 05:33 PM

My Hobby Lobby honors competitors cupons ... so use your Jo Ann cupons or even Micheals .

judi wess 07-30-2010 03:17 AM

Hobby Lobby is a store that my nonsewing friend and I like to shop together. She crochets and I quilt and knit. They have a really great yarn called "Love That Yarn", I think that is the name. Anyway, it is a good price. Bought a nice velvet there for Christmas projects, the kind you can emboss. Bought stuff for my wedding there, good sale. Enjoy.

mswordwiz 07-30-2010 03:21 AM

I love my local Hobby Lobby, it is where I still take classes for quilting, and i love their fabrics, which are better priced than JoAnn's!

damaquilts 07-30-2010 03:38 AM

Love Hobby Lobby. I didn't know about the employees though. I know everyone seems friendly and happy when I go in . Like Publix they obviously treat their employees well.Wonder when other businesses will get the idea They are closed on Sunday which makes it great for the employees but a little hard on me sometimes. I find that their regular prices are cheaper than Joann's . Ours is moving. I sure hope they don't change the store when they move.

CarrieAnne 07-30-2010 03:42 AM

I LOVE our Hobby Lobby! Ours moved into our old Walmart, too. They have nice fabric, not as much as JoAnnes, but I always find diffrent stuff their.
They have AWESOME Christmas stuff, Aisles of it.....I spend so much time looking at it!
And the 40 percent off coupons are AWESOME!

ka9sdn 07-30-2010 04:18 AM

Use fabric from them--it is just fine and usually cheaper than JoAnn's. Be sure to sign up for their weekly sales add on line--hobbylobby.com. You get an e-mail usually on Sunday (when they are closed) that has a 40% off coupon for the week. I copy it off for extra copies as you can use one a day. Does stretch the budget.

l1harris 07-30-2010 04:27 AM

You will LOVE Hobby Lobby!!!!! I buy all my fabric there

Debra Mc 07-30-2010 06:56 AM

Love it. HAs way too much stuff I want to buy in all departments.

smagruder 07-30-2010 06:58 AM

You are a lucky gal..... Hobby Lobby has LOTS of items for you to browse through. Yes, they do have a nice fabric department along with crafts, picture framing, holiday items, artistic materials, flowers, and home decorations, plus other depts. You will love that store.

reginalovesfabric 07-30-2010 07:19 AM

I used to go to Hobby Lobby often, they have downsized their fabic dept here in Hburg and put more silk flowers, how stupid. They have 40% coupons every other week in our local paper. Go to their web site and register and you can print out the weekly coupons and go each day if there is somethings you need.

patsyo56721 07-30-2010 07:21 AM

Yes, We have one about 30 miles west. It is similar to Michaels but it has fabric. It also has some furniture as Hancocks does. I prefer it to Michaels because of the fabric.

tryitall 07-30-2010 07:40 AM

Hobby Lobby is GREAT! We have JoAnns, but I prefer HL. Wish we had one here. "Ours" is 32 miles.

jackkip 07-30-2010 07:55 AM

I love Hobby Lobby. I think their fabric is a much better quality than Joann's. If I am not buying from my LQS, then I am buying at Hobby lobby. Usually their cotton prints are on sale each week for 30%. Mine has a whole aisle of what I would call "Blenders". Small prints in almost every color. Notions are not their strong point. Some books, which are nice if you use the 40% off coupon.

I love shopping their. They play Christian base music. It is not boring stuff. I catch myself humming and then realize, Hey I just heard that song in church.

Their Christmas stuff is out of this world. Haven't been in a few weeks, but heard they already have all the Christmas stuff out.

You are going to love it. :-D

klgreene 07-30-2010 08:18 AM

I love Hobby Lobby. I had never heard of it before moving to NM. It has all kinds of holiday decorations as well as decorating for every day. But lots of stuff for all kinds of crafts. I love the variety of yarn they have. Which I have purchased alot. I have purchased fabric there as well. Ours does not have a hugh variety, but usually has something I "NEED" :) You'll love the store.

Lystra 07-30-2010 09:02 AM

I love the quilting fabric from Hobby Lobby! They are always 30% off all the time and I find the quality pretty good. Ours here is SC carries some kaufman and Kona all at 30% off. Also make sure to check out their quilting books I have gotten some really good books for just $5.00. I prefer HB over the Hancocks in our town.

newfiegirl 07-30-2010 09:11 AM

Love Hobby Lobby - fabulous store. Before the airlines started charging for extra bags, I always took an extra suitcase (large) to Denver to carry home the goodies. Now I pack and ship. Also love the fact that they consider Sunday a day of rest. You are going to love Hobby Lobby - the store, the selection and the employees. Have fun!

ladydi64 07-30-2010 09:16 AM

Yes I have one near me about 20 miles as the crow flies. They carry a little of everything for all kinds of crafters. They also have weekly specials and if you join their email they will send you a 40% off coupon each week that you can use either online or at the store. Lucky you I find them better than Michael's or JoAnns.

ClairVoyantQuilter 07-30-2010 09:31 AM

Hobby Lobby is owned by the Green family who also own Mardel's Christian bookstores. They sincerely are an exceptional business model.

bethanywoman 07-30-2010 09:50 AM

Hobby Lobby originated here in OKC many years ago. You might compare it to a Joann's but it is much superior. They have always carried a full line of arts and crafts, framing, seasonal, and fabrics with a pretty good line of notions and I believe they still offer some classes (in the arts line), lots of wood items to craft with, home decor. Give them a try. For years that was all we had to shop . Also, I forgot, great floral department, too. I started shopping there in the early 70's and also as far as the home decor, we had a choice of Pier One to compare with it back then.
