too scared to put scissors around my neck, feel like i might stab myself.

I had my thread scissors on a ribbon around my neck but it, too, kept poking me. What I did was put the ribbon around the wire thread guide on my cone thread holder. I can always find it just by grabbing the ribbon and following it to the scissors. The ribbon is plenty long enough to reach where I need to snip the threads, and if I want to take it somewhere else, I just pull it loose, slip it thru the loop and off we go. I used the kind of attachment where I wrapped the loop of ribbon around the wire, slipped the scissors thru the loop and pulled it snug. Don't know what that is called, tho. LOL When I drop them, they just stay hanging there till I pick them up again. No bending down to the floor to find them.
I had DH drill a hole the size of my seam ripper in the wooden base of my cone thread holder also, and that is where it sits. Easy to grab when I need it, but out of the way otherwise.

Could you send a pic of it?

Thank you.

I made myself a quilted chatelaine after meeting a Japanese lady on a train. She was making one and we got talking. She sent me the pattern and it is a good gift to give to friends. It actually looks a bit like a priest's scarf with pockets and scissor holder, pin cushion etc. Perhaps something similar might help you.

I would love the pattern for the lanyard. Please.

I can't stand to wear any weight hanging around my neck, so I use an apron and put the things in my pockets. It more nearly like the one carpenter's wear except that it's pretty.

Well put, this made me laugh.

Maybe you need one of those "neck baskets" they sell on TV! LOL

What is bad is when I don't know I dropped it and just keeping hunting and hunting for it. If I didn't drop, I wouldn't get any finding or picking up excercise. Now dropping something that breaks or spatters is to much clean up excercise.

Hahaha! I resemble that remark!
