Even if she doesn't wear them for the ceremony or reception they would make really fun wedding pictures. Some people do a bridal shoot of just the bride a couple weeks before the wedding. These would be a lot of fun.

While I can`t use my wedding dress(not strong enough material), my daughter ask me to make her a quilt from the brides- made dresses. I just couldn`t do it, she stood up for lots of weddings, 3 black, 1 slate (dk.gray) 1 purple, 1 dk green, 1 burgandy, and 1 multi print. But so many different types of material that I`m sure I would never get them to lay properly.

I like the idea of using a thrift store dress before attacking your own

What a gorgeous pair of quilts and pillows.

My dh and I eloped so I never had a wedding dress. Next year, 2012 will be our 40th wedding anniversary. I have picked up 2 wedding gowns off of Freecycle to make a wedding quilt. Both posts I was up front in telling them what I was planning to do with the dress.

I just learned to quilt last year, but my goal is to have this quilt made by next August. I never wanted a wedding dress, but an Anniversary Quilt is a different story!

What a wonderful idea. and let me be the first (really early) to congratulate you on your anniversary. Blessings on you and DH. Happy quilting.

These are great ideas. I'm not ready yet to cut into my dress. But it has been used. The daughter of a friend got invited to prom at the last minute. She wore my wedding dress. (It's red velvet. White is so overdone). The petticoats have been worn many times under other dresses for madrigals dinners and such. I still have the prom dress that my Mom made for me. Pink satin with white maraboo feathers. I saw a christening gown once made from a wedding dress. It was gorgeous. And a great keepsake. Memories need to be cherished, however that works for you.

I love to make wedding dress quilts, wall hangings and pillows! It's one of my specialties at Mary Manson Quilts. I'm currently working on one that has lots of ruffles, it will be a wall hanging for a grand baby. Here are pictures of some others I've made.

My wedding dress will be 32 years old this summer. My mom made it, as I knew exactly what I wanted and refused to even try on a dress. I would not even think about cutting it up. I did take the scraps and am working that fabric into a wedding quilt for my daughter. My dress is one of the few things I have left that my mom made for me, and I want to leave it just the way she made it.
