A girlfriend arrived last night and will spend the weekend and we plan to work on quilts all weekend. She is still sleeping so I thought I'd check out the board real quick. have fun everyone!
We started our own group similar to a Project Linus. We are called Threads of Hope and we meet monthly and send about 200-300 quilts each year for babies in need throughout our state (MN). We only have a few ladies that participate but we really accomplish a lot.
I am working on a Suffolk puffs quilt to put in our local quilt show at the end of the month. Got to hurry.
LQS retreat today and clean tomorrow
I am ddoing alterations on a shirt, cutting the pieces for a baby quilt and going to church.
We had a charity day at my quilt guild last weekend so worked on those then.. brought home some fabric & got one small rag quilt done & working on another.. guess I had better figure out what I am doing with the other fabric & get started on it also... good luck with you Quilt Linus day, it makes you feel so good when you know that someone will be wrapping up in that quilt that you made & hopefully feeling a little better knowing someone is thinking of them..
I plan to finish putting together the quilt top I'm making for my son, including the borders so I can get it reading to be quilted. Hopefully I can have it qulted by next weekend and get it finished. I have to start a crib quilt for my nephew's soon to be born baby boy.
I would love to join a Project Linus program, but in my little town in Arkansas we do not have it. Jeanniebelle
Hope to decide on border for a top, and maybe start to stablize baby clothes for stepdaughters request. If it were anyone else..that would be a NO way project, oh well, guess you have to keep peace. :(
I'm going to finish a couple quilts this weekend and hopefully do some embroidery. I would like to try out the AcuFil function on my 11000. My husband has been itching for me to try so he can see how well it works.
Im working on customer quilts all weekend, have to finish before we head out for vacation next week
I have a small quilt I made for practicing a quilting pattern then a larger quilt that will be using that pattern. I appliqued a celtic knot on the border, thinking I measured twice, sewn once? NOT. The knot is 4" off center. Last night I removed the border, today will center it then I want to quilt it. So far, the little one is loaded on my HQ 16 and waiting to go (here I sit). I also had to rip and replace the borders on that one as I really hated what I'd chosen. That will be a Project Linus quilt. The bigger one (about 70x70) is a gift for my personal trainer and I really want it gifted already!
Laurie who is off to the sewing studio to work now. Will check back during a break. |
I have a quilt to finish for a friend's daughter (was due today), but work got in the way. I will see her, Tuesday and It will be ready. quilting and binding to go!!
I am going to try toget my mom's memory quilt ready to go to the long arm quilter. I only have 4 blocks to finsih and then join 2 rows to the rest. Shouldn't take too long...if I could just tear myself away from the computer...!
Still working on my son's wall quilt. Hand quilting it and it's great b/c my Mom is still here and I get to work on it while we watch movies or basketball.
I don't want her to leave!!!!!!!! She is healing well and we're enjoying our time together :D:D |
I just opened a new topic on my completed practice block!!
back to the sewing studio!! woo hoo Laurie |
I made 10 pinwheels blocks today. I find it so much easier if I cut several at a time, then piece in a assembly line fashion. I do a lot of pressing along the way. When cutting those out I am also cutting dresden plate pieces at the same time. I haven't started sewing them yet but will when I get a lot of them cut. They are easy to do with the dresden plate ruler.
Ok, will try this again, new to all this still. Lost what I just typed, so if it does post, sorry......I see u like the dresden and pin wheels, me too. Have bought a few patterns with both and in my books. Being new to this I really want to tackle these blocks!!.... New to the board and new to quilting but not afraid to tackle things. So if I have any questions, can I ask you......I am so excited about the board and everyone is so nice and there to help.....
It's unusual, but our Arizona weather is cool and rainy this weekend, and hubby is out of town, so I'm working on a flannel baby quilt, and maybe doing a little shopping at Joann's big sale.

There's a finishing class at my LQS every month where everyone goes and brings their UFO's to finish, I've never gone, but it seems like it would be fun
Bought a new 24x36" mat from Joanne's at 40% off... Worked on black/red/white cats quilt for a friend. She had the cat fabric and I fussy cut them, added wonky red border, then wonky black border. I am ready for sashing and I chose a small red/white checked fabric. Will start adding that tomorrow.

I am working on a quilt for a place called "The Center for Courageous Kids". They have family weekend retreats and summer camp sessions for children who are medically fragile. It is a state-of-the-art, $21m facility. The best part ----They do not charge anything for children and families to attend. It is AWESOME!!
They have a home-made quilt on EVERY bed (196 twin size beds) and are always in need of quilts. |
Hope u post a pic of it when done .....would love to c it....my daughter just loves cats, what is the pattern??

I want to do smaller quilts now that I'm getting to be 75. Might not be enough time to do big ones again. Just kidding, I just want to do smaller. Where do I find a variety of table runner patterns and throw size quilts? Hope someone can help me with this and thanks.
I have not heard of these but will check them out online...
Thanks for any help I can get.
There were over 500 quilts done at the Project Linus workday when I left...about an hour before the sewing day was over (my son was in town and wanted to see him as they were leaving early to go home due to bad weather forecasted for tomorrow)...the goal was to have 800...so not sure if there would be that many...but very likely that 600 may have gotten done...such a fun work day...and a nice meal provided by the sponsor...I look forward to the next one!
Just go online and put in what u r looking for and u will b surprised what comes up........
I did it a number of years ago.
Have to whip stitch a couple dedication labels to quilts plus assemble a jeans rag quilt and start ragging it.
The 20th is my birthday. I am going to do what all 62 year old American sewers and quilters should do on their birthdays. I am going to go to a Quilt Show and spend the rest of the weekend (including the holiday on Monday) putting 2 pieces of fabric together under a sewing machine needle. In other words, I plan to sew, sew, and sew. I spent today getting some fabrics together.
I am not to be disturbed ever if WWIII breaks out. Those are my orders. May you all have a great and blessed weekend. Janet |
Just finished up a day of sewing baby quilts for local hospitals with a group from my guild. We have a relay every February to see how many tops we can get finished. I was happy that I finished 2 and almost a 3rd one. Don't know how many were turned in but there were about 25 quilters there.
My quilt guild had a service project Thursday to make baby quilts for a local shelter for mothers. I made one baby quilt there, but have worked all weekend on 6 more. Just finishing up the last one. Our meeting isn't for almost two weeks, so I'm hoping to get them quilted by then. I love doing this. Very rewarding.
How rewarding ladies, u have to b so proud of what u r doing for sure.........mayb when I retire I can do things like this, right now never enough time and would want to finish them quick for people.....love doing baby quilts too.....I cannot even get one done and look at the two of u....great job girls......
