I'm spending my weekend working on a quilt for a teacher that works for the same school district I work for. I don't really know her, but she is just 29 years old and was just diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a radical mastectomy and will have to have both radiation and chemotherapy. I cut squares for her students and fellow teachers to sign with fabric markers and then sewing them into a D9P for the front. For the back I am making blocks made of strips and sewing four together and then cutting a large heart out of them to applique onto the back of the quilt.
I admire all of you for your donations to the various programs you support. I am hoping to get involved with a group that donates quilts, but as a new quilter I have not found a group I can join yet. Hope all of us have very productive weekends. |
Hi! I have made blankets for Linus Project but have never done it in a group as you will be doing. I think it is great. Wish I could join you. Have a great and resourceful day!

Anyone else go to Project Linus work days? |
I went to the Project Linus workday today! We probably said "hi" to each other. I heard the total was 627 for the day. Pretty awesome quilts. It's always amazing all the different designs. I love going to blanket day for the inspiration!

I don't go to Project Linus workdays--because I need to work when I feel well enough to work. So, when I make quilts like these, or any others, it might be in the middle of the night, or at 10 am, or 3:30 pm or ??? I can't usually work on anything for any length of time either--BUT I do love to help by making these worthwhile quilts!
As far as weekend sewing plans, I am working on stitching down a binding on a quilt that my DM made for my aunt, who is terminally ill. After I get the binding done, I will make a label so we can take the quilt to present to my aunt on Thursday. |
We are getting snow even as i type this, so since i will be house bond, I guess I will have to do some quilting or maybe sewing, or work on finishing getting my fabrics organized, this site encourages me with their organized stashes :D

I spent yesterday sewing costumes for the local high school. Their show opens onthe 4th of March and we have a lot to do. I will probably be back there on Monday night working and a couple of other nights this week and all day next Sunday.
The good thing is that the theater is almost done. Last year after the show they ripped it apart to install some things and make renovations. It took them until two weeks ago to get the final electrical inspection. It has been a big empty hole. Last week they started on the walls. WHen I walked in yesterday they had painted the walls and they were laying carpet. The main part of the theater now has carpet and the seats are going on this week. |
I'm working on a snowball quilt with sashing that I saw here in the pictures board that was made with a layer cake. Had been looking for something kinda quick and easy for a change. Liking the way it's turning out. I made mine a bit bigger than the one I saw because I like my throws a bit bigger. Have all the blocks made, the first row of blocks and sashing together, and plan to at least get the rest of the top put together today.

Sounds like you need company.

I need to go and look at the Project Linnus web site, are there patterns to do? Quick and easy? Maybe I can have one done and donate. As for me, a newbie witout a lot of time, I have not attended a project day with other quilters, but I will add that to my 'bucket list' as something I would love to do/plan for next year or so. Thanks for the idea!
