My prayers for a swift recovery. This is a good warning to be careful no matter how long we have been sewing.

Halfsquare 09-12-2011 06:07 AM

You must have been concentrating very hard on your sewing. I hope you are okay.

kateyb 09-12-2011 06:10 AM

I did that about 30 years ago. However, the needle didn't break. Hubby had to help get the needle out of the machine before I could get the needle out of me. Hasn't happened since. I wasn't a quilter then.

alwayslearning 09-12-2011 06:13 AM

HOPEFULLY, we only have to do this once. Glad it is now over for you! Heal quickly.

diamondee 09-12-2011 06:24 AM

OUCH! I hope your ok.

mhansen6 09-12-2011 06:24 AM

I am so sorry. It hurts doesn't it? I have done this too, years ago when I was a teenager.

Becka 09-12-2011 06:28 AM

Ow. Not funny in the least. I do find it notable, however, that yours is about the fourth story about sewing the finger I've read since joining the Board, and I think each and every one of them mentioned whether or not they got blood on their project! I had to smile at that part. Do take care about infection.

grannypat7925 09-12-2011 06:28 AM

Oh........big ouch! I have come close but have managed to avoid a direct hit so far. I suppose one day my luck will run out but I don't look forward to it! Hope you heal quickly and I know you will be more cautious in the future!!!

mountain deb 09-12-2011 06:50 AM

I had a needle break years ago and a piece fly into my eye. A trip to the eye doc later confirmed I had a scratch on my eye. Thanks be to God it did not pierce the eye.

Honestly, I have always been more worried about this...but now since my eyes are older and I need to wear glasses when I sew, my eyes are probably much safer now.

joycecil 09-12-2011 07:05 AM

Sorry to hear. Praying for fast healing.

tmg 09-12-2011 07:25 AM

Ouch! Hope you feel better soon.

JudeWill 09-12-2011 07:49 AM

OW! I can only imagine how that must have hurt! Hugs!

caspharm 09-12-2011 07:55 AM

Welcome to the club :) Did you make sure all the pieces are out of your finger?

Take care.

roserips 09-12-2011 08:10 AM

My mother told me you aren't a true quilter or seamstress until you have sewn your finger. OUCH!!! is right I didn't gain that merit badge for a very long time however yes once is more than enough for me. The things mothers come up with...

karate lady 09-12-2011 08:31 AM

oooooooooooooooo...so sorry that has to hurt.

miriam 09-12-2011 08:50 AM

Well, at least it wasn't a power saw. My DH insisted my sons learn to sew before they ever used a power saw.

stoppain 09-12-2011 09:26 AM

always save the fabric first! Men are babies always LOL

Doreen 09-12-2011 09:27 AM

That is a big Oweee! Hope all is well!

grandme26 09-12-2011 09:56 AM

That hurts. The men's reaction is what they always do. Glad you were able to get the piece out without major problems.

Delbra 09-12-2011 11:16 AM

Yikes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

G'ma Kay 09-12-2011 11:44 AM

May God heal you quickly! I did that when I about 13 years old. Can's say I've done it since.

LindaKayCat 09-12-2011 12:08 PM

Ouch! It must have hurt! I used to live in Rochester, MN. Now in Northern CA, but love MN still!

me too - my biggest issue this weekend was rotary cutter nicks! But my day is coming for the needle!

Floralfab 09-12-2011 12:51 PM

Oh that sounds painful. Hope your finger isn't too sore.

scrappy happy 09-12-2011 01:19 PM

pawebdoctor 09-12-2011 03:27 PM

Bet it hurts more now, then when it first happened. Big OUCH!!! I've come close... and dread the day. Hope you heal quickly... and please, don't hold it against your machine.

verlena 09-12-2011 04:05 PM

I have an older Viking and I put the needle thru my finger. I had to go to ER. When I got there I had needle sticking out of the top and thread hanging out of the bottom. When I gotack home all I had to do was put a new needle in the machine and it sewed just fine!

momto5 09-12-2011 04:15 PM

I did the same thing...on my longarm! Ouch, ouch, ouch! Hope it heals quickly! And I too, loved the comment about the men in the house :-P

Grandma Peg 09-12-2011 04:46 PM

So sorry, glad nothing more serious.

quiltymom 09-12-2011 04:59 PM

I had that happen only the tip of the needle went in with thread had to pull thread outthen with the tip on an angle evert time I moved hand I was in severe pain went to E.R. had to do surgery to get tip out NEVER EVER want to do it again!!!

Homemother 09-12-2011 05:46 PM

Have to share an "OUCH" too!

Last week I succeeded in cutting a chunk of my finger off. It doesn't look too bad this week - healed nicely. It's obvious to me, but no one else. Yes, I ran from my fabric, too, because I didn't want any to get on it!

ging10ging 09-12-2011 06:38 PM

been there so i feel for you at least you managed to get away from your fabric in time. feel better. sue

TN Gal 09-12-2011 07:28 PM

Many years ago in my first year of teaching .... having given instructions and warnings, one student sewed right over her finger. She was so intent in guiding the fabric, she forgot to let go. The needle broke and part of it was in her finger....went to ER to have it removed. Gives me the willies!!

katigirl 09-12-2011 11:36 PM

It hurts just hearing about it. Ouch.

Nanjun 09-13-2011 09:13 AM

Sounds about right for the men in the house.
