After more than 40 years and millions of stitches on a sewing machine - I just sewed through my finger! The needle broke into 4 pieces, so just a small piece was left in my finger; I got away from my project - so no blood on it. I pulled the little piece and went to the kitchen to clean up. The 2 men in my house got a little pale when I told them about it.

Raggiemom 09-11-2011 10:02 AM

Ouch!

Oooo, sorry! Make sure all pieces come out and your tetanus is up to date (if you haven't had in 10 yrs, you need it). But if you had a tetanus only shot over two years ago, you could get Tdap (Adacel) which would also protect against diptheria and whooping cough (pertussis). If you are around kids, it's a good idea.

Granna of 5 09-11-2011 10:06 AM

That make me hurt all over. Been there done that!

PATTIESPEARL 09-11-2011 10:34 AM

kiffie2413 09-11-2011 10:44 AM

BLAP 09-11-2011 10:50 AM

ChrisB 09-11-2011 11:05 AM

I know my day is coming but have not done it yet. Feel better.

annthreecats 09-11-2011 11:16 AM

Sorry you were injured by your machine. Four pieces, that must have hurt, A LOT! Hope it heals quickly.

patchsamkim 09-11-2011 11:17 AM

OUCH...I would get it checked out if there is a lot of redness...and as someone else said...if you haven't had a tetanus shot in awhile it would be good to get one.

Jennie and Me 09-11-2011 11:46 AM

Oh, OUCH!! Makes me hurt to think about it!

merrylouw 09-11-2011 11:56 AM

Ouch!!! Been there, done that; although I was in high school when I did it! Sewing at home, OOPS, went to neighbor to get him to take it out!

Dina 09-11-2011 12:10 PM

Oh no!! You could have gone another 40 years without doing that!! I hope it heals quickly. Ouch!! Take care of yourself now...

Montana Quilter 09-11-2011 12:22 PM

OMG-that makes me queasy to even think of it! Blechhhhh! Yeah-and I work in the ER! Maybe because you are a fellow quilter?

craftybear 09-11-2011 12:27 PM

Leota 09-11-2011 12:39 PM

Ouch!... got a chuckle about the men getting pale.

mom-6 09-11-2011 12:44 PM

Ice it down if you need to and soak every night in hot eposom salt water for a few days.

CarolinePaj 09-11-2011 12:45 PM

Oh my gosh..... I hope you are feeling okay and that you got all that nasty needle out!

Hugs

Caroline

yowzee! I did that as a teenager when I first learned to sew. just as blap & loriel commented you protected that fabric! Hope it heals quickly....keep sewing....carefully!

Sherryquilts 09-11-2011 04:56 PM

Thanks everyone for the sympathy and well wishes. I am up to date on my tetnus and it was brand new needle, so it was nice and sharp. Surprisingly enough, it doesn't hurt too much, but I suppose tonight when I am trying to go to sleep it will throb. The two men - my husband and son - have recovered nicely. I put a bandaid on and went back in to finish the project that I was working AND used my rotary cutter and hot iron without further incident!

MaryAnnMc 09-11-2011 04:58 PM

War wound! Be proud. You are a REAL quilter now... you proved it when you worried about your fabric first.

Dyan 09-11-2011 05:19 PM

Ouch, I had a needle go through my nail once.

Katia 09-11-2011 05:26 PM

Just reading this made my stomach flip. I have done it as well, and I feel your pain.

crafty_linda_b 09-11-2011 05:28 PM

EWWW the pain of it all....crafty_linda_b

heather1949 09-12-2011 04:05 AM

My MIL said you are not a sewer till you have sewn through your finger "OUCH"

Patti Mahoney 09-12-2011 04:07 AM

Eeeekkkkekekekekkkk, that made my stomach curl as soon as I read about your finger. OUCH! ! ! Been there, done that AND I've stabbed myself in the foot with a pair of scissors. I try to stay away from heavy equipment (lol, scissors and needles) as much as possible now, lol...So sorry, I hope you recover quickly.

Yooper32 09-12-2011 04:09 AM

Oh, shudder! Makes me wonder, is my time coming up sometime soon?

roadrunr 09-12-2011 05:12 AM

Feel sorry for you. I did that with my new machine, but it didn't hurt at all, couldn't even tell that i sewed my finger. Hope you feel better.

Isn't that too funny? When I poke myself with a pin, I walk away until the bleeding stops.... we're true quilters, I guess. LOL

Tweety2911 09-12-2011 05:21 AM

Oh I feel your pain. Hugs!!

fabricfairy 09-12-2011 05:27 AM

I was kind of surprised that it didn't hurt more - I think that THINKING about it happening hurts more!

:-)

Dkm 09-12-2011 05:49 AM

Isn't it funny...we think about our projects first, then fingers.LOL
