Lindaschipper, Husband sounds like a keeper!

All I need is more batting. I am trying to work my way thru my stash doing charity quilts. I hope you all get what you wish for this year.

Well, I don’t celebrate Christmas but this year I did get 2 nice Hanukkah gifts. I found a real sweet Singer 99 on eBay and she is all set up and sewing great. My other gift is a light pad that will be a great help with my appliqué. At this time of the year my sweet hubby is easy to buy for ……. all he asks for is new books in his light novel series and latkes!

corgidog 12-11-2021 12:27 PM

I also want a Martha Washington sewing cabinet.

Oh I love Latkas! Might you share your recipe?

I have to come up with something new that I want for Christmas. All year long I have said that the only thing I want for Christmas is for my DH to get hearing aids. He is very stubborn, and will only do things on his own timeline. Over the last several months our sons have been gently telling him to get hearing aids. Even our 15 year old grandson, who has worn hearing aids since he was 3, has been after him. Third week in November he decided it was time. He has them now, and though not perfect, things are a lot better. He's going through quite an adjustment period, but things are looking up! Now to decide....what do I want??

This would be a dream come true for me!

DH's hearing has gotten worse over the last few years, but he says it is bc I mumble, or talk not facing him, etc. - even though it isn't just me he has trouble understanding. We've actually had arguments bc he thinks I've said something I didn't say. I don't know why, but he says my telling him he needs hearing aids insulting. To me, it's not any different than needing glasses - which we both wear.

This is not related to the original post, but I have worn hearing aids for over 20 years and they have been the best thing yet. No more asking people to repeat themselves constantly. No more missing out on conversations and lectures. I love my hearing aids!

Both of our daughters, and their children, live in another state. One of them is estranged completely from me and mostly from my husband as well. After over 2 years, the pain is still beyond description. I no longer celebrate Christmas.

Gifts for our grandchildren (4 boys!) were bought before we went to FL. DH will take care of getting them to the kids. I will spend the day sewing, a good distraction.

Windows

I would so LOVE someone to give me a gift of getting my windows washed! There are a lot of them, and around May--I think that would be awesome!

sewbizgirl 12-11-2021 05:17 PM

Linda, isn't your husband so sweet, trying that hard to please you?

I was just in a gathering of quilters today and the talk turned to air fryers. I knew nothing about them, but the general consensus of the ladies who had one was that they loved them. So yes, you really wanted one! JK, but I think you'll like it when you learn what to use it for.

lindaschipper 12-12-2021 06:15 AM

I bought a Martha Washington cabinet over the summer months for only $60...it does need to be refinished. That's a project for this coming spring because of my back issues.
Yes, Sandra-P and Sewbizgirl my husband is sweet, kind to me and generous. He's my third (one divorce, then my second husbnad dies after 28 years and now Steve.)....don't they say the third time is the charm? I've hit the jackpot and Iove him. He wants nothing but homemade cookies and fudge for Christmas.

SusieQOH 12-12-2021 06:27 AM

Linda, he sounds wonderful indeed.
I got a MW cabinet many years ago at a flea market. I love that thing! It has all sorts of drawers and compartments.
I don't remember the cost but it couldn't have been too much because all my kids were little and antiques weren't at the top of my list of purchases lol.

This has been so interesting to hear what everyone wants for Christmas. I, like so many others, don't need anything. I just enjoy the family getting together.

sewingsuz 12-12-2021 02:42 PM

I know my daughter got me a combination air dryer and the PC or hot pot, what ever they call it.

LifeLovePassion 12-12-2021 06:30 PM

I ordered myself the drunkard's path die for my new AccuQuilt. Today they had an additional 30% off with free shipping. No minimum order.

Omg! I would love that Rusty! I have a ton of windows, a lot of them upstairs and they all need washing badly.

I am so blessed to have my family and to be able to celebrate with them. And today my "unimportant" to anyone but me, wish came true. I finally can accept that all of the sewing projects that I wanted to have finished for Christmas are just not going to happen! I have a lot of gifts finished, but I am not going to ruin my absolutely favorite time of the year with my, as usual, unrealistic and crazy goals!

bearisgray 12-14-2021 04:46 AM

Civility and communication within my family would be nice.

As far as "stuff" goes - right now, if I could find takers for some of it, that would be awesome!

More of my favorite line of FQ's. They are hidden under my sewing table. It's a line that came out from QT Fabrics in 2018 called, Radiance. I have made 3 quilts from that line so far and purchsed more FQ bundles when they went on sale.

[QUOTE=GingerK;8524051]I told DH that I would love if he arranged (and paid for, of course) a service on my treadmill. I use it at least 5 days a week and it has become increasingly noisy over the last year. He was thrilled that a: he didn't have to think of something on his own

Ginger, my treadmill was noisy and old. I oiled the running pad (Amazon online oil provided instructions) and problem solved.

I might have spoke too soon!! He wore them gung ho the first week, and now "forgets" to put them in. He's not sure they fit well enough, and I'm running into having to avoid arguments about his hearing. I did tell him that I will no longer risk my hearing by continuing to listen to the TV at such a high volume, so he needs to do something!

SusieQOH 12-18-2021 06:28 AM

My Dad was the same way. He refused to accept that he couldn't hear well. It was frustrating for my Mom especially but for everyone else too.
I have the same bad ears as him and getting hearing aids was the best thing I could have done. I'd never be able to understand what my sweet granddaughter is saying, as kids voices were especially hard for me. I feel like a new person!

I bought a lot of Go dies on sale this week. Many of the dies that I thought were too overpriced finally got reasonable.
