I second this! This is the one we taught at our shop to cover the bases....

Hearts are a perfect shape to learn on as there are straight areas, curves, and inner and outer points. Simple flower shapes are also good. Have fun!

I would chose a leaf and flower design. You can cover all of the curves, points and also deside how tight you want the curves, etc to be.

Thanks to all-- I knew I would find helpful suggestions here :) I had in mind to do a simple flower--making sure there was a circle for the center :)--think it covers about everything. I dont want to overwhelm anyone, but I dont want it too simple either. Im an applique nut and think everyone should try it once.
