what binding?

I just finished this quilt top and I am thinking about binding. I can't decide if I should use the green for the binding or not. I am afraid using the yellow for binding will show dirt too much

What do you guys think?

Cute Quilt! .... Looks like John Deere meets New Holland!

You have a good sense of colour and design ... go with what looks good to you IRL.
The colours do not really show well in this pic so hard to know.

That being said, my first thought would be to bind with the same as the outer border.
The yellow would cause you to look between the two yellows, which would be fine if there was something there you wanted to draw attn to, but not the case this time round. You want to keep the focus on all of those JD squares in the centre.

Like I said ... go with what looks good to you!

That's so pretty! I'm inclined to say the blue in the border, or green, but not the yellow. It would change the look you have.

cjsews 10-10-2017 03:59 PM

I agree with the blue or green.

Tartan 10-10-2017 04:14 PM

Cute top! Do you have any of the background fabric behind the tractors? I think that plaid would make good binding or green.

Watson 10-10-2017 04:16 PM

My first thought was to bind it in the blue.

Beautiful quilt. I would use the blue, it would not change the look.

Maggie_Sue 10-10-2017 04:43 PM

I agree with the blue the same as the border. Very cute quilt!!!

QuiltnNan 10-10-2017 05:58 PM

my first choice is the same as the blue... but you didn't offer blue as a choice, so i'd go with the green.

cashs_mom 10-10-2017 06:12 PM

I would use the same blue as the outer border. I really like your quilt :)

Anniedeb 10-10-2017 06:17 PM

I would do the blue. Second choice would be the plaid. It's a great quilt!

rryder 10-11-2017 01:43 AM

Like some others, my first idea would be to use the blue from the border if you have enough left. Cute quilt!

jmoore 10-11-2017 03:32 AM

Looks like you’ve got plenty of advice but I wanted to add what a nice quilt...the yellow for the sashing was a perfect choice.

lindaschipper 10-11-2017 04:46 AM

Any color that you would use for the binding will get dirty. I would go for the yellow as it brightens up the other colors in your John Deere quilt. For a color to "pop" it needs to be in 3 places....your inner border, the tires on the tractors and I would do the binding. Let us know what you decide.

lorimax5859 10-11-2017 05:58 AM

Definitely Blue!

meyert 10-11-2017 06:18 AM

thank you everyone for your replies and kind words. I don't believe I have enough of the blue to bind this one (I am using it to bind another quilt... but maybe I can change the plan for that quilt ha ha)

I didn't think about the plaid. I did fussy cut the tractors out so I do have that scrap to check into

I will let you know thanks again

Dirt!? What dirt?! You aren't going to let anyone get it dirty are you? LOL

I think you have your answer. It's a great quilt!

Jordan 10-11-2017 07:21 AM

Cute quilt. I think the blue would be good for binding. I feel the yellow would distract from the blocks.

pewa88 10-11-2017 07:33 AM

Blue would continue to frame the quilt

My thought too.

newbee3 10-11-2017 08:47 AM

maybe do flange binding use yellow and the other color

Kitsie 10-11-2017 09:25 AM

Yep, I agree with using the blue to keep focus on the center. Nice quilt!

Jules51 10-11-2017 03:10 PM

My first choice would be the plaid and then the blue!

reneaunoel 10-11-2017 05:28 PM

I hope you don't mind, I would like to use your fun tractor quilt as an idea for a little boy at church! He is about 5 months younger than my 4 year old granddaughter, and he LOVES tractors. Not barns, chickens or cows, but Tractors! Your quilt is perfect. Personally, I will probably use the plaid for binding, just because it carries all the colors in the top! I imagine I'd better make it sturdy, I think he will use it until college!

Jane Quilter 10-11-2017 07:25 PM

I vote for the blue plaid, but I would audition it with a tiny yellow flange in the boarder too.

sewingsuz 10-11-2017 07:32 PM

Your quilt is very nice. Good looking, and I would go with blue or green but not yellow.

Boston1954 10-12-2017 01:47 AM

I like the blue. I think anything else would pull attention away from the main body of the quilt.

earthwalker 10-12-2017 02:26 AM

I would choose yellow, for precisely the same reasons as the other lone yellow chooser :).

bearisgray 10-12-2017 03:01 AM

My first choice would be the blue - but you said you don't have enough to use it for the binding.

(What was it, by the way?I have a VIP blender that looks similar to that)

I think I would avoid using the yellow - not because it would get grubby looking sooner than a darker color, but because it would detract from the center.

sewnsewer2 10-12-2017 03:59 AM

I would use either the same as the borders or the John Deer.

duckydo 10-12-2017 04:51 AM

I kind of like the light color you have used as sashing, but either would look good.

paoberle 10-12-2017 12:01 PM

I would bind in the blue.
