What border would you recommend? Help! :-)
3 Attachment(s)
I recently finished piecing the quilt below. I can't decide what fabric to use for the border. I attached two additional photos with closeups of the potential border fabric next to it. I don't have enough of any of the other fabrics to create a border, and I don't want to buy more fabric (this has been made completely from scraps).
I also have a bunch of 2" squares left that I could use for the border. Please let me know what you think.... I'm stumped! |
How about a narrow green then a wider blue?

I like the blue option the best
I think a blue border the size of the big squares would be nice. Nice scrappy!
I think I would cut 2 1/2" strips about 6" to 10" long and use all of the different fabrics.
How about a narrow green, then a 2 inch scrappy border, then a wider blue border.
Really love those scrappy quilts! |
look at the border on this pattern:

I love the quilt.
After the time and trouble you went to to make it I don't think you should settle on your choice for the borders. (If you're asking, it could be you're not completely satisfied with any of your choices.) If it was mine, I would go with a white border to match the blocks with the white borders. I think that would really bring them out. My 2 cents, Rodney |
I would use a dark narrow border next to the quilt to "frame" it, then a larger outer border in a lighter fabric. Of the three you auditioned I would use the blue with stars and the green solid.
Lay out the green solid, put the blue over it leaving a good 4" of the green showing in a corner, then lay your quilt over the blue with about 1" showing - again on a corner. Stand back and take a look. |
I like the blue.
I agree with everyone on the blue. I also like the idea of using the green for a narrow inner boarder.
I would go with the blue to really make it pop! Very nice quilt!
I also like the blue fabric the best with it.
Narrow green and then the blue would look real nice. pretty quilt

I like the blue, too!
I agree with DogHouseMom. Since your quilt is a scrappy, you have a lot going on already. The yellow is busy also, so I think it would be too much. The dark blue makes a great "stop" border, then the green calms everything down, and also pulls from the inside of the quilt. Try laying it out as she suggested and see what you think. By the way, the quilt looks great.

I would use the green as a small border then whatever you want as a larger border -- your blocks won't "melt" into the border but will provide your eye a place to stop.
I prefer the blue border. Lovely work!
I go with Rodney on the white. A blue binding would work on it too.
The blue, the blue !
Thank you everyone for all the suggestions! I'm going to lay out the different fabrics in a couple of the ways suggested and see how it looks!

This is the option I like, too.
I like the blue as it has alot of the colours already in your squares, if you have enough white how about a very narrow white border first?
I vote for the narrow green and wide blue too, that will be gorgeous.
I would use a solid darker border to make the center pop.

I think prairie points would really dress it up. I don't see prairie points much any more, but I love them. I think a solid color for the prairie points would look great.

I like the blue best.
I think it pops all by itself. How about no border?
The blue would be great. Very pretty.
I would do maybe a 1/2 inch of the blue then finish with the random 2 inch squares. Very nice!!! Can't wait to see what you decide!

I think the blue one. The other two seem too light to "contain" the vibrant center.
