I vote for a nice peach or lavender.

yellow or turquoise

IMHO...I'd do an I Spy quilt...not gender specific at all. Jut buy juvie fab. Just did one and I did snowball blocks. Just so darn cute and approp for boy or girl. I'd skip baby blue and pinks and go w/ RED Blue GREEN. Skip pastels. They show dirt way too quickly!

I always thought this would be a cool pattern to use for twins, choosing two fabrics for the two smaller stars to represent the babies (and alternate them in each blanket, so each one is being held in his/her own blanket) and a coordinating print for the "mom."
Haven't had any twins to make blankets for, though, so it's still on my list of things to do... |
If you are making a log cabin pattern. Use primary colors (brights) and a black, white, red is a good choice. I've seen a lot of nurserys done in black/white/red and it is very attractive
|
That is a neat block for twins!
|
Bright Primary colors or black and white I have seen baby quilts that looked awesome

Lavender

Make green & yellow.

I like the idea of one yellow and one green. Or do both in brignt colors...

I agree, Red!

You could do a combination of yellow, blue, and purple. The purple would lean toward girly and the blue toward a boy, so it could go either way.
|
When I made a quilt for my new granddaughter/grandson,there didn't want to know the sex, so I made a baby quilt with both pink and blue in the pattern. You might try the same using different shades of these colors for each quilt.

I would make both quilts out of the exact same primary color fabrics, both log cabins, but different patterns
|
I am having trouble getting my suggestions through. I suggest a log cabin in red and white. Babies love bright colors and red is good for either a boy or girl.
|
I vote for purple. I saw a purple & white BQ a friend was making and fell in love with it. She was using chenille for the white. It was so soft and cuddly.
|
Interestingly babies see images mostly in black and white when they are newborn.
I have made a number of black and white baby quilts and they look wonderful. |
Red/blue/yellow/green + theme or character quilts are nice. Dinosaurs for a boy, butterflies for a girl or cats & dogs or birds & fish. There are so many possibilities! Have fun!
|
I would do either black and white or something bold like red. I have never known anyone who knew the gender of their baby before it was born, so I always have to make gender neutral baby quilts. In my experience, new parents love the bold colours. In fact, my avatar is my 1 year old daughter's baby quilt.

My daughter has twins, one boy and one girl. I made one quit blue and white and very feminine print floral print with hits of green leaves for my little girl twin. The second quilt for the boy was green, yellow and white and less floral. The thought was they would likely end up interchanging the quilts any way.
The babies did not care and my daughter was just glad to have two quilts that were not pink or blue, boy and girl. And now....I get to make another quilt because a baby brother or sister will arrive in November. The challenge is we know there is only one baby this time, but not if it is a boy or girl. To wait until the arrival or to just choose a wonderful set of softer colors that any child would like, now that is my question. |
Orange

To answer your question - turquoise or teal.
If I ever have the opportunity to make baby quilts for twins, my plan is to make 2 log cabin quilts in primary and secondary colors, using Kona solids, binding one in red and the other in purple. I may have to add turquoise too. |
I'd go with yellow, too!

I vote for brights also.
|
I love primary colors, you can't go wrong! How about all the same colors, just different amounts of the colors. Does that make sense? Like, one with lots of reds, and one with lots of greens. Thats what I would do.
|
I would do multi-colored ones ( scrappy ), purple, green, orange, yellow, all good uni-sex colors...
|
I would do something totally non-traditional....like black and white with pops of yellow or other brights.
|
Black and white with splashes of blocks of primary and brights! Very exciting!
Once went to a baby shower. More pink than a Mary Kay Convention....until THE BEST GIFT was opened....some wild, loud funky geometric mod dress! This was in '06 and I still remember it. |
Why don't you make them both red, blue, yellow and green (with some white) but in different patterns? One Log Cabin and one strip-pieced Trip Around the World would be great---- or even better, use some of the new Dr Seuss and Eric Carle fabrics.
|
Speaking as a mom of twins and a grandmom of twins, you are on the right track to make the quilts different. Since you do not know the sex of the babies, I would avoid floral all together. There are so many cute stripes, polka-dots, tone on tones, or even Moda solids to work with. Has the mommy to-be registered online? That is usually the first place I go before making a baby quilt. See what the mommy's taste is and go from there. I've seen so many interesting trends: yellow with grey is really big right now. So is orange with baby blue, or aqua with red. If you can't figure out what the parents want, if you go with any of those 3 color combinations you'll have a winner.

I love this idea!!!!!

One I made when the mother didn't know and didn't care for pastel colors was purple and green.
|
I like bright bold colors blues and greens and oranges and reds

I would stay away from the pastels. They will seem "babyish" when the kids are 4-5 yrs old. They would probably carry it (cherish it) longer if they were in bright colors. I just made one with teddybears on it in red, yellow and blue. Turned out cute.

Ask the mom what she would like.
