I have a dear friend who is expecting twins. Naturally I am making quilts. She thinks she is having one boy and one girl (early in 2nd trimester ultrasound). I am not comfortable making pink and blue as those things can be wrong at this point.

I was thinking that I would make one green quilt. What color would you make the other quilt?

I am thinking of making Log Cabins, one each of two different designs.

isnthatodd 08-31-2011 09:11 PM

yellow or lavender

trif 08-31-2011 09:11 PM

I would make the other yellow tones, both green and yellow are good neutral colors.

Grammy o'5 08-31-2011 09:11 PM

Possibly make the other yellow?

LeslieFrost 08-31-2011 09:12 PM

Yellow!

BeckyB 08-31-2011 09:12 PM

a very light blue?

Flying_V_Goddess 08-31-2011 09:13 PM

If it were me, red.

quiltingcandy 08-31-2011 09:14 PM

You can do any child friendly quilt and it will be okay - they don't have to be gender specific. I used to crochet using the primary colors because little ones really like the bright colors.

TheSevenYearStitch 08-31-2011 09:16 PM

Yellow! I love, love, love, a yellow baby quilt!

beebs 08-31-2011 09:17 PM

Either yellow or orange or red or blue - I mean - blue isn't really gender specific is it really?

I love yellow - my little boy who is 3 months looks so lovely in lemony yellow colours...

Maggiemay 08-31-2011 09:18 PM

Brights!

I am thinking of making Log Cabins, one each of two different designs.

Stick with the green, yellow, tans & browns. And so the log cabins--maybe using the same fabrics for both but each set in a different pattern.

Sounds like a great idea -- same colors but different.

Maybe make a unisex themed quilt? My brother isn't finding out what they are having so I am making The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

How about a theme quilt like Dick and Jane, wizard of oz, one of the classics that never go away...

I like the idea of making the other quilt red (I know Mom likes red) but do you think that is too much like Christmas?

I was thinking of making the other quilt a floral log cabin. That way it is a more girly quilt without having to be a specific color. I am attaching a few pictures.

I also like the idea of a yellow quilt. My problem is that I know this horrible camp song that involves green and yellow and I just can't think of anything else when I think about making a green and yellow quilt.

emerald46 09-01-2011 02:46 AM

I agree with brights; however, I am partial to yellow..lol

fabric_fancy 09-01-2011 02:49 AM

purple for me

Edie 09-01-2011 02:53 AM

I just made a baby quilt with the "Depression" pattern. I used all the colors of the rainbow, both pastel and bright. And then I used a swirly tonal in oranges, greens, blues, pinks as the border and binding. The back was a multi-colored stripe. It worked just fine. Besides which, when the child gets older and drags it all over the place it won't show the dirt that much!!!!!!

Just a thought! Edie

One green. One blue.

Shelbit30 09-01-2011 03:24 AM

Yellow and green

Amythyst02 09-01-2011 03:25 AM

Peach !!

virgwid 09-01-2011 03:25 AM

I am a newborn nursery RN. Please don't make the other quilt yellow. While they can be adorable, they also make the babies look jaundice. We all cringe when we see a baby wearing or wrapped in yellow. Does it have to be pastel? Some of the best looking baby blankets I have seen have big, bold colors. Newborns also see those colors better than the pastels. Virg

Primary colors - Red, yellow, blue. The brighter the better.

Although I am not sure of the difficulty, but what about a child, visually stimulating quilt, with different shapes of all bright colors? Maybe I am nuts too?? lol

laalaaquilter 09-01-2011 04:04 AM

yellow. that and green are almost gender neutral although I bet the green goes to boy and yellow to girl.

Funny, I just realized, what about orange?

countrycottage 09-01-2011 04:05 AM

I agree with Cathie; yellow or lavender, or the two combined. I think that yellow and lavender or yellow and blue look lovely together.

Murphy 09-01-2011 04:29 AM

How about making them in primary colors, red, blue, yellow, green; i.e., rainbow colors. Any primary color could dominate and it would be perfect for either gender.

sahm4605 09-01-2011 04:37 AM

i would go with a very blueish purple for the other one. green and a very blueish purple will be great together. especially if one of the babies is suposed to be a girl. the ultrasounds are getting better. you can always wait for the next ultrasound to be sure. start the green one and go from there. I am sure that the mom will probably have another one in a couple of weeks to check on the babies.

Annaleehunter 09-01-2011 04:39 AM

yellow

Yes, brighter the better, stimulates their minds. Black and white too, I think its the contrast that does it...so I guess any two colors with high contrast would work.
When my niece had her first boy, she wanted browns, blues and rust. For the second boy she asked for autumn colors.

Mariposa 09-01-2011 04:48 AM

Make them both black and white with a bright (or two)! :)

karenpatrick 09-01-2011 04:52 AM

Yellow goes well with green.

lillybeck 09-01-2011 05:00 AM

I would use the basic colors of red, blue, green, yellow, orange. These are nuetral and make up lovely and bright. The first color a child sees is red so these are great.

mom-6 09-01-2011 05:06 AM

Stay away from gender specific! DS #2 was 'supposed' to be a girl all the way to the delivery room. At 6'4" & 175 lbs now it's a good thing he turned out a boy. Anyway we returned a whole lot of pink stuff as nearly everything from my baby shower was pink.
I tend to go with brights or cute animal prints or ABCs.

bigsister63 09-01-2011 05:12 AM

What color is the nursery? Make according to that. Or make "I spy" quilts that can be used as child grows.
