What did you name your sewing machine!

I named one of my machines .. "old bessie" not sure why it just seemed fitting. The newer ( 20 years old) I never named , maybe I was not sure I was going to like her/him. Did you name your machine ? and how did you pick the name?

kathleenq 05-02-2012 08:11 PM

I named two of my machines: I have a Viking 230 mechanical sewing machine. I named her "230". It fits.
My newest machine is a Viking Quilter 11 computerized machine, Her name is Quilters Dream. Because she was a fulfillment of my dream to own her one day. Kathleen

My APQS longarm is Matilda for the song "Waltzing Matilda" because working with her is like dancing and I love the music she makes when the Intelliquilter is running.

Mariposa 05-02-2012 08:24 PM

My first machine- a Singer-named her Faith. I had faith she was going to help me in my new creative endeavors!
My Pfaff- Sarah. It means princess.
My HQ LA machine- Hannah. It means grace. I need lots of that when doing these projects!
My FW-Bella. Cuz she's so pretty!
My 301 2-tone- Savannah. Like the name. :)

Fun Topic!!

Babylock Ellisimo ~ Elli
HV Designer 1 ~ Emmi
Babylock Imagine ~ Maggie
1924 Singer Treadle ~ Mary ~ after my beloved Gram, it was her machine

jlm5419 05-03-2012 02:21 AM

Too many to name, so I just refer to them by their make and model number, or, "mother's old machine" or "the 99 I painted," or "my old Kenmore." DH is not at all interested in my machines, so we don't have much occasion to discuss them.

6swolcott 05-03-2012 02:29 AM

I have a Juki 600 and his name is Colin so when people want me to do something that takes me away from sewing day or time, I just say sorry I already commited my day to hanging with Colin, oh yeah and Colin Farrell is hot! I was going to name her kitt but so much more fun to be hanging with Colin. LOL

masimmons 05-03-2012 02:35 AM

My brother machine is named JOY due to the amount of joy my family and friends get from my use. . .my kids call it Harry Potter because of the embroidery part where it sews by itself.

mom-6 05-03-2012 02:47 AM

The only one I've named is my FW, Sophie...maybe I should spell it Sewphie?

franc36 05-03-2012 03:01 AM

I haven't named my Bernina; but I named my featherweight "Quiltie" because I use it only for piecing quilt tops.

Drue 05-03-2012 03:50 AM

My Husqvarna Viking SE was named yaers ago by one of my students. When I bought her, my student saw her and started calling her "ESSIE" and it stuck. The Featherweight that I learned to sew on when I was about 10, which I got from my mom when she passed away is called "BABY". My little Janome Excel,23L, which has always been so faithful and my little workhorse I refer to as "TOOTIE". My graet grandmother's treadle is "GRANNY" and my Husqvarna Huskylock 936 serger is just called "936". Sort of like naming our pets, huh!

mltquilt 05-03-2012 03:51 AM

I named my Bernina 830 Big Bertha as she is definitely in comparison to my 150 QE.

Sewflower 05-03-2012 04:06 AM

My FW is named "Victoria" because I finally won her on ebay

Daylesewblessed 05-03-2012 04:08 AM

My Pfaff 130 (the machine I use every day) is named Leslie. Leslie was previously owned by a farmer named Leslie who bought him at a farm auction, because his wife wouldn't let him sew on her machine. Leslie only sewed denim quilts for his grandkids and charity. Now Leslie, the machine, sews everything.

The electronic Viking from the 1990's that I gave to my niece is named Lena.

I have yet to name the FW and 301.

Dayle

joysewer 05-03-2012 04:29 AM

Great topic!! I haven't named any of my machines but I bought an antique dress form that I call Sophie.

annthreecats 05-03-2012 04:35 AM

I started named my machines after I started collecting them. I thought it would be easier to keep them straight. I named two of my machines after former owners (they belonged to friends' Moms who used them), they are Martha and Elsie. Two are named after my two grandmothers, Helen and Elsie, just because. And one I named Vesta because I like the name.

piepatch 05-03-2012 04:43 AM

I have never named my machine, but I know a woman who named her machine b---h!

ksdot417 05-03-2012 04:47 AM

I haven't named my machines, but I have come down with the "Bernina" Flu on occasion.

nycbgirl 05-03-2012 04:51 AM

I have friends who give everything a name! Their tree in the back yard is Tom. Their cars are Scooter and The Beast. I have never thought of naming anything other than my dog! lol However I do feel that my car and sewing machine have "feelings" so I am very kind to them and don't work them too hard!! lol

Tartan 05-03-2012 04:52 AM

My Singer treadle is called "old clunky" due to the fact she's old and makes a lot of noise when I treadle. My new Bernina 440 is named Bernini after the artist because some day I hope to be able to claim Bernini helps me create art.

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 05-03-2012 05:25 AM

My Janome 6500 is Diamond Lil because it was expensive.
My Janome Platinum is Baby Jane since it's not a full sized machine.
My featherweight is Miss Lizzie since she was made in Elizabethtown NJ and also because my grandmom's first name and my mother's middle name was Elizabeth.

jcrow 05-03-2012 06:16 AM

My Bernina 830 was purchased with an inheritance from my father and I named him after my dad. His name is Welty.

LynnVT 05-03-2012 06:53 AM

Not too original - my Janome is Jan. Don't think I ever named the FW, but she is my Little Sweetie.

Buckeye Rose 05-03-2012 07:05 AM

I only have one machine, a Janome 6600 who so far has done everything I've asked of her. I haven't named her yet, but there are days when a nasty name is uttered....usually when I've done something really stupid and try to blame the machine....LOL. In all honesty, I am usually too focused on what I am doing to worry about names.

kms 05-03-2012 07:09 AM

My bernina's name is Bernice Rose. Bernice is Bernina and Eunice, my mother's name , and Rose is for my Viking machine I used for a trade in.

SouthPStitches 05-03-2012 09:35 AM

"Sir Chugs-a-Lot"

goidaho 05-03-2012 09:39 AM

My Bernina 1080 is just called "my Bernina". But when my 16 year-old daughter was a little girl, "Bernina" was always the name she would call herself when she played dress-up or did any kind of imaginative play. For years she would don a different personality, brandish a British accent (where she got that I don't know) and approach me with a "Hello, dahling. I haven't seen you in evah so long. You remember me of course -- I'm your dearest friend in the world, Bernina!" I guess it is a pretty name for a girl. I sometimes wonder if she'll one day name a daughter of her own Bernina. I hope so. (Also, for the above reason, I'm glad I don't own a Pfaff!)

KathyFL 05-03-2012 09:50 AM

I named my Pfaff Pfanny...

Favorite Fabrics 05-03-2012 10:14 AM

I've only named the Singer that was made in Scotland. She is "Lassie", of course!

Happy Linda 05-03-2012 10:41 AM

Bernina is Bernie, lightweight is Itsy

Brenda M 05-03-2012 10:56 AM

I have a Brother Duetta 4500D and his name is BOB! I always love the look on people's face when I say I'm going to spend the night with Bob...my DH name is John!!! LOL

spacebull1 05-03-2012 11:10 AM

I named it My Crazy Machine.<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0" height="1" width="1">

DonnaC 05-03-2012 11:30 AM

My antique Singer is named Ambrozina, after my grandmother. My sturdy little Kenmore that I never have a problem with is named Edna, just because that seemed like a basic, old-fashioned name. My little Featherweight 75is named Tinkerbell, and my stress-inducing Singer Quantum L-500 is named Paris Hilton, because she is so high-maintenance and difficult to deal with!

I also have the Singer 160, and I think her name will be Black Beauty, after a book I loved as a child.

sparkys_mom 05-03-2012 11:57 AM

I named my Janome 7700 "Lola" because she gets whatever she wants. :)

Krisb 05-03-2012 12:33 PM

My Singer 66-1 is Lydia, for my aunt who could sew anything.

medots 05-03-2012 01:41 PM

my long arm is bettsy sue 2

mdall 05-03-2012 02:03 PM

I havent named my two newest machines will have to come up with some before I'm done typing. The old Remington I used before them my hubby named the "Electric Woodpecker" due to how much noise it made. I have thought about and I think I'll have to name my Brother LS3000 "Mindy" because that the one I go to for all the mending that needs done and my Brother CS6000i I'll have to call "Blue" because the entire front is a bold bright blue color. With that said Mindy and Blue both need my attention this evening.

Charlee 05-03-2012 02:24 PM

Let's see...

Edna, Raquel, Mamie, Fannie, Margie, Buzz, Hazel, Hannah, Honey, Lizzie, Annie, Donna, Cathy, Tillie, Delores, Eleanor, and the newest one doesn't have a name yet, but will probably end up with something Scotish, since it's a 328K... :)

kelsunshine 05-03-2012 03:14 PM

I once had a car I called "Bessie".
I only have a name for one of my machines. I call her "Busy Bea"

Glenda m 05-03-2012 07:31 PM

Abby is my Wilcox-Gibbs. Guess why. LOL All the others have names, but it's to late at night to remember.
