How about disappearing 9 patch blocks, or even 12 patch blocks, since you have so many small squares. I think it would make a great looking scrappy quilt! Or you could just send them to me! teeheehee!

I would go for the nine patch.

Oh my...I am overwhelmed by the responses...Got up this morning here I sit with my morning coffee in awe of the friendly, helpful, wonderful quilters on this board...the posts multiplied overnight...what a great way to start my morning :)

After playing with some of the squares last night i am finding some of them are 4" and some 4 1/2" on a side...I am thinking that half square triangles are going to work for the larger squares and then the smaller ones need to be trimmed to 4" then from there I will lay them out and see what I have :)

Thanks for all your help...I will be sure to post pics when I get them layed out for suggestions then (might be a while :))...I hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Is that where you just top stitch them onto the backing fabric? The ones that I have seen all seem to have random sized pieces of fabric. Thanks for the suggestion :)

I looked at that quilt and thought it would be a fun project for someone. Especially if you had some of their old favorite garment fabrics to use. The person who made the quilt said she pinned them to the base and then sewed them. If I were going to do it I would glue baste them (Elmer's glue between backing and fabric and iron them on) and then sew them. If you free motion quilted them in place you wouldn't have to pivot and turn the item around like she did. Seems like it would be a fast project. Ann in TN

I agree with Craftybear! D9P

How about one of the 10 minute block. That is nice for using up scraps and although you usually start with a larger square you might have enough 4 1/2 ones for it to work . I first saw it on this board so I'm sure if you search you will get several versions.

Now I did not know there was a name for this type project or that it even existed. Funny things we can find on this board. I've been thinking of doing this with my scraps not realizing it actually had a name for it and been done.

:-D

Now that I see it can be done I think I will work on starting such this weekend.

The one thing I noticed was the lady left each piece with a raw edge so my thought is why not snip sides of each edge like you do a rag quilt and when washed it would give it a ragged type art piece.
