Besides using as any other cotton fabric in quilts.....Amish use it to "dress" their windows...looks so clean and warm......

You could sell it to people on the board. I will buy 25 yds. PM me if you are interested.

The quilting police would have a problem with white muslin backing? lol Have they realized how older quilts were done back in the day?

Backing, backgrounds, sashing - use as any white fabric. One of my favorite fabrics!

White muslim is perfect for Cathedral Windows quilts. You can choose just about any focus fabrics for the "windows," and it'll look great with the white. Traditional Cathedral Windows use a lot of fabric. You'll be glad you have so much!
FWIW, before I made my first CW quilt, I made a small sample with some leftover white muslin and some scraps of Christmas fabric. Because I was just trying out the technique, I didn't bother changing the thread in my machine. Wish I had, cuz the resulting sample was so gosh darned cute - except for the tan thread. I'd have bought more muslin and kept going! |
I use a lot of muslin for backing, keep scraps of it for sleeves, labels, use for scrappy quilts as the "constant" in the quilt--wow, so many uses! I also use muslin as the liner for curtains so that you have uniform look from the street--since you are moving to a new home, you may need it!

I'd feel like I had found treasure if I had that bolt. I saved 8" squares of white on cream muslin when I made a design change in one of my quilts. It ended up in another quilt. Weed out something you now think is ugly instead if you need the room. Hope your move goes as well as possible.

back in the 70's I used Muslin and Gingham check to make 9 patch blocks for a Baby quilt, The mother told me several years ago that the Quilt was used by all 4 of her children... I love the feel of Muslin too. In that baby quilt I used unbleached muslin.

I use it for lots of the things mentioned above-backs of quilts, wall hangings, table runners, etc. I use a bolt of it every year. I buy the best quality at Hobby Lobby with my 40% coupon.

I use the high quality stuff usually the wider stuff for some backings. Right now I have a large piece on the frame as I'm quilting a number of outdoor fabrics for new cushions on my deck furniture.
Also if I'm trying out a new clothing pattern and I want to be sure I have the alterations correct I'll make it out of the muslin or at least the part I'm concerned about. Rather waste the muslin than the good fabric. |
