Everyone has different preferences with regard to scraps. Most of the time I donate them to the scrap lovers around me.
Someone recently gave me 4 bags of scraps - not knowing it was scraps - after the non-quilter was told that a quilter would love to have them. In the 4 bags, were 6 usable pieces of fabric! The rest was discarded. However, I appreciated that the person who originally gave away the scraps was attempting to get them to someone who could use them, and perhaps honoring the memory of a loved one. That is always a good thing. |
I think most of us use them for doggy beds, or kitty beds. I have a friend that just puts them in big old pickle jars and sets them on a shelf in her sewing room. The bright mix of colors look really cute in there

I'm throwing out these little itty bitty pieces in a old pillowcase that will be used at the dog shelter.

I used to make pet beds, but the local shelter got a grant for special beds, so now I just dump them. For me, life is too short to try to make confetti blocks or skinny strings and the like. I don't keep anything less than 2" wide strips or 3-1/2" square.

Snippets of thread or tiny fabric pieces
When I lived in SoCal, there were several people I knew who made their own paper, using fabric scraps. The put them in a blender with paper pulp and water so when they formed the paper there were colored wisps throughout.

I'm sure the Quilt Police will be all over me for this, but I usually toss the scraps.
I did once use them as fill for a small stuffed bear rattle for my nephew (in my avatar pic). I didn't have enough at the time to fill the whole thing, so I supplemented with fiber fill, but it was a great re-purpose for the scraps & my nephew loved it. What I found puzzling is I've posted here in the free pif section offering flat rate boxes of scraps ( and many pieces are not that small, there are fat 8s, and wide wof strips, quilt shop quality, minky dot, etc) for the recipient to pay postage only. One time I had a taker, the rest, nothing... I also had others saying it's a free country, and it was my scraps to do with as I please. I do have several of the clear plastic shoe boxes with lids, I put my scraps in them by color, to use in my applique quilts. Regards, Kif |
Throw them away.
