I use it all up on a piecing project where the color really won't be seen. I recently got a long arm and used 11 bobbins of mismatched threads while "practicing" my skills!

I pull it off . I use it for hand quilting or throw it away. My metal bobbins are not cheap - about $1 apeice so I do not have hundreds of them. I do not always use them up on other projects since I HATE changing bobbins!!!!!

When you have lots of thread bits, it's time to make a scrap quilt and use them up! The many colours will work out just fine and you'll be left with empty bobbins.

I just finished a stip quilt and when I put the blocks together, I used bobbins that had just a little thread left. It was a pain to change bobbins so often, but it was worth it--and for a scrappy quilt, bobbin thread doesn't matter a bit!

I have just finished several projects and have a bunch of bobbins that are about 1/4 full. Too much to pull off and too little to save. I was thinking of using the bobbins up when I piece a project that has similar color fabric.
Do you pull it off the bobbin or ???? |
I am a longarm quilter and I save the bobbins with the little bit of thread for either hand sewing and sometimes when quilting a small quilt I will use the bobbins with more on them. I use Bottom Line pre made bobbins and do not have to worry about needing the bobbin itself.

Now that's I great idea!!!! As a longarm quilter, I end up w/a lot of partially used bobbins! It bothers me to waste so much of it, but one can only own SO many bobbins lol I'm going to try this!

Usually it's colored thread that is left on my not used up bobbins. I pull it off and stick in a ziploc bag. When the mood strikes to be crafty, I layer the thread between water solvable web and sew it all together. Then I cut shapes out of it. Great for decorating totes and other projects.

Use it for hand sewing!

Love your idea, BellaBoo!

I use the same weight of thread for piecing as for quilting. That way I can use up my bitsy bobbins for piecing. I really don't care about the colors matching in piecing.
|
I always use white or tan thread for piecing, so I avoid having a lot of colors left on bobbins. I hate it when I run out of bobbin, so using up small amounts of thread and doing multiple bobbin changes would drive me bonkers. I pull it off and reload.
