I used them constantly to practice FMQ on my domestic. Now that I have a long arm ... not sure how often I'll be doing that.
I also use them as cleaning pads for my vintage machines and the rails on my long arm (I only use 100% cotton batting). I've used them at home on various other objects to clean/polish. If I'm working on a small project ... I'll sew bits of batting together. |
If it's cotton or a cotton blend, I cut it to size to fit my swiffer. It seems to work as well as the swiffer sheets.

I use mine for all of the above reasons from dog beds to pot holders, but the last thing I used them on was a quilt as you go project. I had enough to do 110 eleven inch squares and I only had to piece about 20 of them :)

I save mine -- and stitch them together to use for larger projects, like baby bibs, rag quilts where I sew a design or "x" in the center, or for bags. I can't see wasting those pieces, and I feel good about saving the $$, even if its just a little bit! I also use some of my 'ugly' fabric as foundation for piecing, too, like on QAYG strips to make a table runner, etc. Some I cut up (LOVE Bonnie Hunters comment - 'if you can still see the ugly, you haven't cut it up small enough yet!') for use in scrap quilts, of course.

i use them for small projects, use them for stuffing, and sew/zigzag them together for wall hangings. sometimes, my big quilts need a small piece added, so i'm glad i save them. i have two drawers in a dresser where they accumulate.

The long strips cut from the edges of quilts are useful for QAYG borders.
|
I lay the very narrow strips one way, then a second layer crossing those. I use these for QAYG blocks, never waste a bit.

Throw them away. Life is too short to add more clutter. Small house here.
I have used some pieces for dusting but don't save them for that use. |
I make dog beds for the local Humane Society and stuff them with small pieces of fabric so the pillows can be washed and reused if not torn, chewed, etc. Two quilt guilds save pieces for me. Those poor fur babies were laying on the cold, hard cement in the kennels. Bet there is somebody around your area that does that.

I piece them together and use them for wall hangings or table runners.
