I have a bad back too. I sew with my machine on the kitchen island and I stand.

I use an armless rolling office chair. Have two I bought at a garage sale for $20 ea, like new. Love them.

I use the Gypsy Sit upon, I love it. It took me a couple of days to get used to it, but now I couldn't be without it. It has re-leaved my neck and lower back pain alot. It's like sitting on a ball but small enough to take with you where ever you go. A good investment.

I have an excellent older padded office chair. It has a seperate padded back that moves with me when I go forward or back with a strong support bar, is on wheels, and adjusts the height and has no arms. IMO many office chairs do not support the back unless you go high-priced. Many companies are down-sizing and on local craigs list we found excellent stuff for our business at bargain prices. Caution- check your posture when sewing-I have to make sure I don't hunch over my machine. I use 2 rubber door stoppers to raise up back part of my machine so it's angled and I avoid bending to see.

Does your pedal reach that far? It must. It's a great idea!

ALL GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT!

My platform works well. I do not have much space between my legs and the counter, have to take my shoes off -- it's all good!

I have an adjustable office chair with good back support. As much time as I spend in it, it really needs to make my back happy.

Yes it does. The only problem I've had is the foot pedal moving under the cupboard at the bottom but I solved it by putting a couple of jello boxes in front of it. I'm tacky if nothing else and my husband thinks I'm nuts.

I use a rubber-backed mousepad with the wrist rest on it. Turn it around and butt the pedal against the wrist rest. That sounds like a tongue-twister, lol!
