Sort of depends on how you plan to use the quilt I think. If you're actually planning to sleep under it, and wash it, then I wouldn't think so. But for a wall hanging, how lovely they can be!

the 'Ashley's Ocean' bargello quilt I made my granddaughter 5 years ago has crystals on it- not covered- but in key areas *like bubbles floating up*, the quilt has been used consistently, laundered, dragged to camp, vacations, ect...and not a single crystal has fallen off.
