are "art quilts" really quilts or just FIBER art?

should fabrics be mixed? as in cotton, poly, satin, etc

as for quilt police...there are non..but there are true TEXTILE reasons to do certain things and there are REAL health reasons to do other things!

That's so sad.... We should all feel free to voice our opinions. Isn't that what both of our great countries are founded on? Freedom of speech? (I'm Canadian) The world would be a very dull place if we all agreed on everything!! I believe it was Voltaire who said "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend, to the death, your right to say it"

As for most controversial subject, I think it would be: how much quilting is too much? But I believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. OK, I'll stop quoting people now....

Having not read the entire thread...my opinion:
prewash or not;
steam or not;
press open seams or to the side

These seem to be the most highly discussed subjects of which I'm aware.

i even heard people argue at the quilt show in PA that art quilts shouldn't be allowed into the show because they aren't really quilts.

then the next big one is computer quilting vs machine free motion quilting.

many people want computer quilting to be a different category so it doesn't compete against all hand guided free motion quilting.

I agree with the idea of art quilts versus traditional quilts. At the Long Beach Quilt Show, I saw art quilts embelished with beads, buttons, paint, etc. The finished product did not look very quilt like to me.....

Hmmmm, I'm going to get in trouble for this one. For me it's been the controversy over another group starting over doing the Farmers Wife Sampler. I really want to work on this quilt with a group. Still hoping it could happen.
