Regular fabric I prewash. I wouldn't prewash a kit or other precut fabrics.

I agree, I wouldn't wash fabric from a kit. After it shrinks you may not have enough.

generally with cut kits it is recommended to not pre=wash the fabrics, the kits are cut to allow you enough to make your quilt with what is there. if you are worried about any of the fabrics bleeding you could take the worrisome ones to the sink wet them and check to see if any color comes off on a paper towel or cotton cloth, if no color worries then no worries, wash your finished quilt when you are ready to just hug it!

Is it wrong to say I don't pre-wash because I"m lazy and that is the only reason I have for being in the "don't pre-wash" column of this Q&A?

If you only use the fabrics from the kit and it is for your use, then why wash? UNLESS there is an intense fabric that has the potential of bleeding. Even still, with the option of using Retayne and color catchers in the laundry you should be safe.
My personal rule on a prject is that either ALL is washed or ALL is unwashed. I don't mix because I don't know how the individual fabrics might shrink.

I'm going to bite the bullet and not pre wash.
Thanks everyone,
Veronica

I wash everything, mostly because I use a lot of recycled fabrics and that way I know for sure that my fabrics are preshrunk fresh and clean. I use a spray starch to put back a little stiffness if required. Everyone is going to have a different answer I agree, but having worked in the fabric industry all my life I can tell you from experience there are no 100% guarantees on anything!

I like your answer!!!
I don't prewash. It's all personal preference though.

I have gotten kits from Connecting Threads and I do not prewash. They have all turned out great.

I wash everything as I don't like the feel and smell of tall the dyes but then I won't buy a kit as what would happen if one ravels and another doesn't or if one has a color that runs..
