I still use safety pins purchased from the cleaners.

I used to pin but had problems with tucks on the back when machine quilting. I now use basting spray. It keeps my fabrics much smoother and I can still reposition if necessary.

The new basting spray is said to be great!

Oh thank you so much for finding the videos for me, i'll take a look at them tomorrow for sure :)

I use basting spray for the smaller quilt items and I safety pin the larger ones

I use basting spray, but will have to try the hair spray. God bless. Penny

Definitely 505 basting spray, always spraying on the batting, rather than the fabric. It's a lifesaver. Have done safety pins, have done thread basting, but to me, nothing compares to basting spray. But I learned the hard way DON'T USE TOO MUCH - you need to use it sparingly, and cover anything you don't want sticky, including the excess batting that is around the periphery of the quilt top, and the surface that you've masking taped your backing to. Or "you'll be sorry!!" (sing song voice!)

I like the Dritz spray. Usually buy a lot when it is on sale at JoAnns.

safety pins ,then tack with cheapest cotton same method / tacking pattern as sharon Schamber ---------this was the best tip I recd from this board ,but did use safety pins and same tacking before.

I prefer to baste with thread. I just use whatever odd thread I have since I will take it out anyway. I find I can get the layers smoother easier than with pins.
