I had seen a post some time ago about using the pedicure spongies and thought it a good idea, but when I found them at the Dollar Tree, I found that I had to buy other pedicure items, which I do not need , to get only 5 spongies and I decided that $1 was too much for only 5, so I am still chasing ends. Think I am going to Lowes or to look for the hair thingies. Thanks for more new idea.

Hen3rietta 02-23-2011 04:12 AM

Great idea! Thanks :-)

barney 02-23-2011 04:26 AM

I have 3 machines all with different size bobbins so I mark them with permanent pens, red, black and blue. Keep my embroidery bobbins in medicine bottles and the others in ped sponges

steelecg 02-23-2011 04:33 AM

I got mine from a friend but I think they have them at joann's so using a coupon gets the price down.

Have 2 of these . But because of having so many bobbins I think I will go with the clear tubing. I like that idea. And I love wandering the aisles at home improvement stores.

karenpatrick 02-23-2011 05:13 AM

That idea is totally ingenious! HOw did you think that up? Hats off to you. I'll be trying this one myself. Right now I'm just using one of those clear plastic bobbin storage boxes and let the ends go where they may. Thanks for the idea!

RhondaKay 02-23-2011 05:32 AM

Wow, I just love this website!...thank you for sharing that!

I don't have pictures but maybe after taking the kid to school. lol

ETA the picture looks like you cut a piece OUT but you don't that one is just stretched out from being on a really full bobbin.

I did the same, after reading about it on this board!

I only have 6 bobbins and keep them on the extra thread spool on my machine. Easy access.
Your idea is a great one for someone with a lot of bobbins.

Jeanniejo 02-23-2011 05:34 AM

I use the plastic tubing from Lowes as well.

Janiemae 02-23-2011 05:42 AM

What would work on embroidery thread? I have Sulky pack that contains about 100 spools of thread with the ends dangling everywhere. Drives me nuts!

DirtyPaw 02-23-2011 05:45 AM

Very good idea.

ksules 02-23-2011 06:03 AM

Also, for spools of thread, tall or short, if you go to your local florist and ask them to save the mesh rose coverings, they work great for spools of thread, for the short ones you just cut the mesh and usually they don't charge because they throw them out.

Me too

Michellesews 02-23-2011 07:34 AM

Hmmm, I must be different. I mostly use one neutral color of thread because most of my sewing is piecing. I fill 3 or 4 bobbins and pop them on the vertical thread holder. Once I use them up, I fill them up again. I guess I don't have this problem? Your idea sure sounds like a great one though!

I use the regular black ponytail bands for all of my electrical cords for my machine and other electrical appliances. I hate those unruly cords to my machine and foot pedal when setting up and taking down for class...No more of those darn twist ties or rubberbands. Great for kitchen appliance cords too.

it really does work but it is not from JoAnns unless you can get them on-line. They are usually sold from Viking Sewing Galleries inside of JoAnn's.

sewtruterry 02-23-2011 09:09 AM

There is a slot on the spools that you can wind the thread around. The end kind of pops open to do this.

dixiebelle162002 02-23-2011 09:09 AM

Sounds like a great idea, thanks for sharing the tip.

kwendt 02-23-2011 09:10 AM

Great idea.... I have some of those and will now USE them!

IBQUILTIN 02-23-2011 09:24 AM

book binding, like the ones on cookbooks. just cut them apart and slip over the bobbin

SNAIL 02-23-2011 09:40 AM

great idea..thanks for the tip.

karen Cicio 02-23-2011 09:49 AM

How clever you are!

pinebeltquilter 02-23-2011 10:14 AM

I bought a small stand for regular spools of thread that sits up, put my bobbins on there, they don't unroll and I can see the colors. I really like it.

Patticake 02-23-2011 10:52 AM

Thank you for this idea! With 4 grown daughters I have lots of these around!

Bev 02-23-2011 11:08 AM

I use the same little thingies you do. I learned that trick on this board. They work very well. 8-)

gramquilter2 02-23-2011 12:57 PM

Thanks for sharing, looks like it will work great.

cavmom 02-23-2011 02:10 PM

great idea! i never even thought about it. I just let the ends hang out and hope i dont catch them and have them unravel LOL!

Debra Mc 02-23-2011 02:11 PM

You read my mind. Have been doing this for quite a while. Also they sell that plastic net to put over them. If you can get in good with a local flower shop, spider or fuji mums & gerbera dasies come with these nets over them so they don't tangle when shipped. Get them to save some for you. When I was still in the flower business, that is what I did.

Mariposa 02-23-2011 02:15 PM

I use those rubber round things. I think they're called bobbinsavers. Work great!

Tennessee Suzi 02-23-2011 02:17 PM

I use the little rubber bands that were left over after a few years with braces. I also use the tiny bands that are for children's hair for bigger spools of thread.

Sandra in Minnesota 02-23-2011 02:39 PM

Thanks for the great ideas, everyone. At the present moment my bobbin ends are all over the place. lol

vickimc 02-23-2011 02:45 PM

cool idea. I have one of those round thing that the bobbins fit in . helps alot.

MerryQuilter 02-23-2011 03:05 PM

Put mine in the little plastic round thing with the loose threads down sort of tucked in

deedee 02-23-2011 03:32 PM

i use those also. They are the best and very cheap at the Dollar Store
