to keep the thread on your bobbins from unraveling? I use the fabric ponytail thingies for fine baby or little girl hair. They work great and you can match the color to the thread color, which I haven't done alot of. I also use it for my spools of thread. And, they are a great price, about 1.50 for 24.

Great idea thanks. For sharing

deedum 02-22-2011 04:44 AM

Yep, I am using those too! Works great!

emerald46 02-22-2011 04:44 AM

I love your idea! Thanks.

KayT 02-22-2011 04:57 AM

I use sponge like bobbin holders that keep things tidy. But your idea is cute!

SuziC 02-22-2011 04:59 AM

I never thought of that...thanks! I have a pkg of those from my little granddaughters.

CompulsiveQuilter 02-22-2011 05:00 AM

I use pedicure toe-seperator things - and I can see the color of the thread from the SIDE instead of just the top (my bobbins are green and I can't tell red from burgandy for instance). I throw the pedicure things in a box, but I've seen people who attach them together with a toothpick. Cheap and a real solution for me, but watch which ones you buy! They should be "shallow."

I went to Lowes and bought a piece of clear rubber tubing, then I cut it into little pieces and cut each piece apart. so it wasn't a complete O any more. there is no part missing out of the O its just sliced! works great and I can still see what color is on the bobbin! I don't have pictures but maybe after taking the kid to school. lol

ETA the picture looks like you cut a piece OUT but you don't that one is just stretched out from being on a really full bobbin.

i bought 1/2 inch tubing and sliced it!

I use this:

I got mine from a friend but I think they have them at joann's so using a coupon gets the price down.

That's what I use, too. It holds them tight, so no problems!

cjomomma 02-22-2011 05:38 AM

I love your idea. I'm gonna go to Dollar tree and see if I can find some. Thank you for sharing

jajudd24 02-22-2011 05:55 AM

so organized...grea idea...

Tussymussy 02-22-2011 05:56 AM

What a great idea.

makakehau 02-22-2011 06:05 AM

Clever! It's fun to "McGyver" (spelling) things so they serve many purposes.

Thanks for sharing.

I use the baby hair thingies too. They work great!!

Mazda 02-22-2011 06:08 AM

Along this line, what do you use for your sewing boxes?

Carrie 02-22-2011 06:39 AM

I also use the bobbinsavers for bobbins. I use various containers for different quilting needs; compartmented box for sewing machine feet, file type box for patterns, small boxes for different type pins, another box for templates. Recently found two thimble shaped ceramic containers that I stand small rulers, marking pencils etc. in. Use canning jars for buttons.
And, I have an old Princess sewing basket for general sewing. Also use a large gardening bag to store my square rulers, small cutting mats, specialty rulers and the outside pockets for various notions.

littlehud 02-22-2011 07:56 AM

I love that idea. Thanks for sharing.

I use the bobbin saver too...and if it gets bumped off the table and lands on the floor the bobbins don't fall out.

jme 02-22-2011 08:03 AM

That's a great idea! Thanks for sharing, I have this problem too!

I use this neat free tool a board member posted about a long time ago. Take the sprial binding off a yard sale cookbook or buy a package of them. I think the size for regular size bobbins is 1/2" but you can buy any size spirals to fit any bobbin. Great to fit perfectly in a drawer any length you want.

Sassylass 02-22-2011 08:44 AM

I use the thingies too....they work great!!!

My DGD used my Sidewinder to fill bobbins when she was younger. She had a blast 'helping' in the sewing room. She would head straight to the sewing aisle at Walmart and buy packages of empty bobbins. I ended up with a shoe box full of of filled bobbins of every color. The spiral book binder made a quick and easy solution to sorting them and keeping them in order.

I've never seen this before...what a great idea

I have been using the bobbin keepers shown in the picture. While I like the fact that I can keep the bobbin with it's thread spool (not mixing up the poly with the cotton) the little pink holders can get loose if they were on a full bobbin and now need to go on a bobbin with little thread. Those little ponytail holders look good.

If you put these pink ones in warm water, they will close up again.

Cool!

Baby hair thingies work great for me. I gave some to my Mom when she came to visit. She likes them, too.

jaciqltznok 02-22-2011 02:20 PM

I also use the hair things and get them really cheap at the $ store!

blossom808 02-22-2011 02:21 PM

Great idea, I will keep that one on mind, will use it.

tutt 02-22-2011 02:40 PM

What a GREAT idea!! Thanks for sharing.

Deborah12687 02-22-2011 03:02 PM

Hey that is a really great idea! I always have to rewind them and sometimes have a stringy mess.

newbee3 02-22-2011 03:19 PM

can also use pedicure foam things you put between your toes.

What a great idea! I've been using Hugo's Amazing Tape http://www.amazingtape.com/ but I might just have to try your method.

I use two bobbin savers and they work great. One is for the Featherweight and one is for my other machine.

Edie 02-23-2011 03:44 AM

I use painter's tape and tape down the loose end and put them in a prescription bottle and they are all ready for me when I need them - no cost whatsoever. Edie

Aurora 02-23-2011 03:48 AM

I use a reinforcements on each bobbin to hold the the to the side, then I put a golf tee through the hole and insert the tee into the hole in the spool of thread. They are stored in a SnapWare container with a handle. I keep empty bobbins and extra filled bobbins in the 7-day pill containers.

I use a toolbox with a handle and wheels for transporting my sewing gear. I will take a photo when I get to UFO this morning and post it later.

Medicine bottles. What a great storage idea. I have a few almost empty. Thanks for sharing!

sewTinker 02-23-2011 04:03 AM

I stack my bobbins on the matching spools of thread that are on one of those peg holders. If I kept them in a box, though, I would use your idea. Practical & Darling at the same time! :-)
