What Do You Use?

Hi To All !

I am planning on making a SUMMER Bedspread / Quilt. I know I want to use White Cotton Eyelet and A denim Eyelet for the top. I haven't decided on the backing yet,. But my problem is finding a LIGHT WEIGHT batting. I always use 100 % cotton Warm N Natural. But it's all too heavy for the summertime. ( Cincinnati, Ohio )

If you can think of something. I would appreciate it greatly. I'm starting to wonder if I just use " Moda White " for the batting :-)

Try Dream Request. thin poly batting. And be sure to back your eyelet with something.

You could use flannel or maybe even just the backing and no batting. For summer baby gifts I've used just seersucker for top and backing.

Thank You Both!!! I'm checking out lots of different things.

Mom-6 ...... I have thought of using no batting. :-)

Holice .... Yes... I need to find a nice white to back the eyelet. Probably just White Kona.

Here in AZ we find using a good quality flannel works well for a summer quilt. I have been looking for sheet blankets, but can not find them anywhere. Does anyone else remember sheet blankets we used in the summer on our beds? That was what we used on our beds in NY in the summer. If I am remembering correctly, they were made of a light weight flannel. Am I right? They would also work in place of regular batting.

Vermont Country Store still sells flannel sheet blankets. I love their catalog for a lot of old time goodies.

I used flannel for a lap quilt for a friend and it turned out great. Not too heavy, just right for lounging.

Just yesterday I used flannel for the batting for a summer quilt, first time for one of my-own-use quilts. I already love it and it isn't even finished quilted yet!

My grandmother made summer quilts without batting of any kind. I haven't tried that yet.

If using eyelet on top that will need something behind it, why not back it with fleece of flannel with no batt? The eyelet would show whatever colour backing you have through the little holes.
