Perle Cotton for me, too. I make the tie part on the back, and the front just shows a little x where I cross it over before I tie.

The only quilts that I have tied have been for little girls and I used very narrow ribbon which I double knotted, then tied in a small bow. It really added an extra feminine touch and they loved them. I spaced the bows so that they would enhance the pattern of the quilt...either in the center of a block or at the intersection of corners of blocks or block sections.

I usually use floss.

What a great idea! Bet it looks really feminine and pretty. Makes me want to try it right away.

Perle cotton, too. I'm doing a country style bed quilt that way now.

I have a full size quilt, hand pieced and tied that was made in 1912 and it was tied with yarn and is still holding together.

I use worsted weight yarn. My daughters have the quilts my mother made them 26 years ago using this method and they are still together, but the flannel is wearing a little thin.

Thanks for asking this question.I'd like to tie a sofa throw, because it'll be used a lot & also because of LA cost.
What kind of tie/knot is best? I also love the ribbon ties idea for a girls quilt. Thanks all for sharing.

I think that because there is so much color to it, and so many seams, I would like to tie it. It is for my studio couch. I tied one quilt with embroidery floss, but know some people use yarn, cotton perle, other? What do you like to use? Thanks.

I use crochet thread if it's to be something for "year round". If it's a winter only or Christmas only type throw then I like to use yarn. The yarn gives it a more "I'm warm" look.
