I love my june tailor shape cut, fabric calculator, better homes and gardens complete guide to quilting(seriously it is my most used book IMHO one of the best overall books on the market for general quilting information). Square rulers for squaring up your blocks. Those are my most used. If you like embellishing or applique the clover mini iron 2 is awesome

Haha, I just make up a list of "sewing stuff" and give it to my husband and he's a happy camper. He doesn't have to put any thought into it. My list consists of gift cards to local fabric shops, blades for my rotary cutter, cutting mats, and quilting magazines. I write down name brands and specific names of items. That way I get what I want and we are both happy. :D

Welcome to the board.
Apart from all the suggestions on here, what about a magazine subscription? That way you'll be able to see what's new throughout the year - as your experience grows you'll probably want different things. I was stunned  by how quickly I 'outgrew' my first machine. |
I agree with thimalina the seam ripper. Some Re much better than others. I bought an excellent seam ripper the point is very. Pointey and sharp a bernina auraura 440 QE came with it.

My most used items are the little 4" embroidery scissors, thread snips, 6" x 12" ruler, purple thingy for keeping fabric down while piecing, good long pins, magnetic pin holder, green Olfa cutting mat, 45 and 60 rotary cutter and blades, and,[U]Quilter's Complete Guide[U] by Fons and Porter.

If you have room, how about a small sewing table and comfy chair? It would hurt my back to sew on a coffee table. Sew EZ has a portable sewing table, it is pricey, but a fantastic table. There are less expensive portable tables out there, too.
