My old one that I've had for 32 years was getting tired and rickety
I found a greeeeat biiiiig Pllano Box that looks like a tackle box but was made specifically for sewing supplies(Pllano even put "Sewing Supplies" on it!)at my local thrift store for four dollars-a steal! Big area under lid for what doesn't fit in four drawers. It took some getting used to but now I'm thrilled with it Everything is so much easier to find and put away and keep organized. Before I got it, I wasn't doing anything but mending The new box nagged me into sewing for fun again |
I use an altoids tin -- very minimal and only what I need when mobile, which is: tiny scissors, a bobbin or two of thread, a lump of bee's wax, a wad of painter's tape, a needle book, a needle threader, the broken off business end of a seam ripper, 3 flat head pins, and a toothpick.
The handwork I do is pretty much bindings, applique, and and paper piecing, and those are my must-have items for those techniques. Otherwise I need my room full o' stuff and no mere sewing box will do. bee3 -- curious about the small needle point pin cushion with star motif on left, center in your photo -- looks like handwork that we used to see in a shop in Jerusalem -- do you know the origins of yours? |

Oh, that is so interesting ! My sisters mother in law who is from there gave it to me, and I love it !! |
I have sewing piles and containers not a sewing basket. My threads are on a wall spool holder. My zipper collection is in a old sewing basket and my every day bits and bobs are on a cookie sheet by my machine.

I use a plastic tool box that has three tiers to store things. The top two tiers are shallow and are perfect for needles, pins, and small tools, these top two sections accordion out and let you see what is in the deep bottom section. I love this box because it has a handle, it's lightweight and easy to carry.

I have a sewing box that was my grandmother's that she gave me. She had tole painted the top. It's pretty good sized but has no compartments. I'm still trying to figure how to best to use it.
