what is good to sell at craft fairs
 

My daughter just found out that her city is doing a town days kind of thing, and they are accepting applications for vendor booths. She wants me to help her make things to sell. We thought of placemats, and hot pads. I thought of maybe a few quilts, some receiving blankets, and crocheted afghans. I embroider by hand and thought of some pillow cases, with a crocheted edging around the edge. I was wondering about bags. I am unsure of copyright issues, if I make bags or wall hangings. Am I able to see the things I make from the patterns or is that a big No No? Any other cute ideas?

This may not work for this year, but if you decide to go back - my mom does hand embroidery on flour sack towels and has them at her church booth every year and she almost always sells out and takes some special orders.

It is normally a hit n miss - you never know what people will go for. I am thinking that table runners may be a good idea. Also if you are doing baby items I bought my mom a pattern (can't remember the name of it) but it is for a cover that attaches to a baby carrier (hand held one) Can you tell I don't have any kids! anyways it acts as a barrier against the elements (sun, wind, etc.) One of her neighbors told her that all of the moms think it is the greatest.

This craft fair isn't until the end of June, so we have some time. I had forgotten about the flour sack towels. I have lots of the embroidery patterns for those. I did forget to mention we were going to do the car seat covers, I made some for a baby shower gift for twins.

Clothesline baskets. Seems like aprons are hot. Those little flags/door hangings that dont even need to be stitched just Heat and Bond. Snap purses.

Remember rule of thumb is cost should be 3X you materials..this I found only works for smaller items...I don't think I would make full quilts unless I had a purpose for them if they don't sell. i traveled the craft circuit for 17 years...impulse inexpensive items were my best sellers. The bigger items, I found, couldn't sell for prices that would give you a decent amount for your time

My guild just had a booth at a Home show, very big diverse crowd. We had a lot of different items on the table. Very well made tote bags of different styles sold the best, we sold out of them in the first few hours, the bigger the bag the better. Especially the ones made from more modern fabric.

Embroidered items didn't sell much at all.
