Yooper32 03-25-2011 02:55 AM

Thanks for sharing this idea. I use deli-papers for crazy quilt squares, so why not coffee filters for rounds. Great idea.

abdconsultant 03-25-2011 02:56 AM

I love circles, thanks.

sewlady 03-25-2011 03:06 AM

thank you for this sight. I looked at a few and got some ideas and some I had already used. Very good ideas.

Sallyflymi 03-25-2011 03:11 AM

Thanks i have got this one saved.

thseabreze 03-25-2011 03:29 AM

I have to wonder if the filter doesn't dissolve, or bunch up, after so many washings? Does anyone know? Same with dryer sheets...I know they bunch up after going through the dryer, twice.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

Psychomomquilter 03-25-2011 03:30 AM

I found that on a frugal list.

If I read it correctly, it's meant to be a tear away stabilizer. Perhaps we both should check it out once again. Love the site! I am always looking for clever and organizational ideas;must visit it again.

Hmmmmm. I use them to filter my dehumidifier water to use in my iron. I love that idea. I have a huge pack of them for use once a year when I make coffee for Christmas; I don't drink coffee. I could quilt the world with circle scraps.

crafjan 03-25-2011 03:46 AM

that is a great site. thanks for sharing it..
Have a fun sewing day

patchsamkim 03-25-2011 03:52 AM

What a fun idea!!! I got a new coffee maker, which uses cone filters, and still have the round ones from my old one...will have to try making one this weekend!

kathyquilter34 03-25-2011 03:52 AM

I use used dryer sheets for my strip blocks..have had no problem in washing them..they are sewed down pretty good..will try the coffee filters for circles..

LilQuilt 03-25-2011 04:09 AM

Thank you for another GREAT idea. I think I just might be doing this!!

Terre 03-25-2011 04:52 AM

@nannysandy thanks for sharing your idea as well.

Another great, non-sewing, use for coffee filters is to catch embossing powder or tiny glitters so you can pour the extra back into the bottles. Unlike the little plastic trays that are sold for this, the filter doesn't have any static to catch the powder and it all pours very nicely back into the container to be used later. Great for scrapbooking and card making! I keep a whipped topping bowl full of the smallest ones in my crafting area.

maryp 03-25-2011 05:01 AM

great ideal

lillybeck 03-25-2011 05:09 AM

Great idea. I have some smaller ones for 4 cup maker so that would be a good thing to use them for but all in all they are cheap so we could just buy a pack of 100 and have a blast. I use them for crafts with my GKs all the time but never thought of this.

PWinston 03-25-2011 05:10 AM

What a great idea. Thanks for sharing your find. Even if you don't have any old coffee filters, they are inexpensive enough that you could purchase them for just this purpose.

This would be so fun, esp. with that "applique" way of doing drunkards path.

How about the large ones for candlemats with Xmas fabrics?

thequilteddove 03-25-2011 05:22 AM

Kewl way 2 use up scraps!

jeaninmaine 03-25-2011 05:33 AM

This is terrific, you could do hot pads really easy or potholders or just use them for an unusual crazy quilt.

gana 03-25-2011 05:33 AM

The circle tut was great but then I got lost in the sight. So many neat ideas. Going to add to my favorites.

Tinabodina 03-25-2011 05:34 AM

grannypat7925 03-25-2011 05:52 AM

I have used these for stabilizer for small emb. designs but love the perfect circle idea. Thanks for an eye-opener!

mummadee 03-25-2011 05:54 AM

Wow, what a great idea. I just started paper piecing and this looks great. Cheap and easy. Just not quite sure how to handle the circles, but will probably try anyway. Thanks for the great tip!
